No only is that incredibly, insanely dangerous, but that engine is probably toast. I’m sure the intake was blocked and it most likely overheated. I’ve seen guys do the exact same thing and it never turns out well.

When we got stuck in our dads boat we ALL got out and pushed engine off in 2-3 inches of water no issues. If even ONE person remained in the boat it was stuck fast on the bar. The stupidity of these people is off the charts if the captain just jumped out and they removed the esky plus extra crap at the front of the boat they could have easily pushed it without the engine running at all.
