Boss Pedals Changed Guitar As We Know It!

Anyone heard about the 80s/90s brazilian versions of the boss/roland pedals? the pedals were named "Oliver" and had the same electronic circuit as the Japanese pedals, but with different design. There is a version of "Flanger" with stronger "resonance".

I love Boss pedals. I just bought an OS-2 on eBay. They still make them and they've been around since 1990 or so but I had slept on that one I guess. I like it a lot so far.

The corner radii on the case of one DS1 is larger than the other making it appear less square to the eye - words from an aerospace machinist. My first pedal was the DS-1.

The DS-1 was my first pedal ever. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to dial in pedals and I thought it sucked. I also had a cheap 10 watt Fender practice amp. I've written off Boss pedals for years since they're so mainstream, but I know they are actually great. I want to get a BD-2 Waza really bad. I have a Boss Katana, so a lot of Boss pedals are built in.

Andy Summers used a CE-2 over his Pete Cornish pedalboard during Synchronicity tour. A great musician from Argentina, Gustavo Cerati, used a whole Boss pedalboard between 1985 and 1987, but he changed everything for a Roland GP-8 that sounds fantastic, it has the best chorus sound I've ever heard. Maybe you should try it.

My first Boss pedal was either a CE-2, or a SG-1. I’m now on my third CE-2, and my fourth SG-1 - both long dash, silver screw. When I got my first of each, they were both brand new. The CE-2 was popular, but I never saw an SG-1 on anyone’s board at the time, other than mine. No one used them back then.

P.S. Re: your comments about the first compressor pedal @ roughly the ten minute mark: it has probably already been mentioned, but (as I’m sure you know) the DynaComp and Orange Squeezer both pre-date the Boss CS-1.

My first Boss pedal is also the one I want to buy. I sold it years ago and regret it all the time. It was a HM-3 Hyper Metal Pedal. Almost no one talks about this pedal. Maybe it's like your first love and turns out it wasn't as great as you remember, but for heavy distorted tone I thought it was fantastic. Gonna get one soon and see if it's as good as I remember.

My 1st boss was flanger bf2 but now I buy only wazas like DIMENSION C CHORUS DELAY SUPER OVERDRIVE DISTORTION FUZZ TUNER BLUES DRIVER. I got 8 wazas and 1 noise suppression

I am not sure about the reliability of BOSS pedals, though. I have the RV-5 Digital Reverb, which lost its reverb effect not long after i bought it brand new. I went to a repair shop and asked if they could fix it. They said it would be more expensive to fix an old pedal than buying a new one. They also told me that the issue with the RV-5 reverb pedal is quite common. So I bought an RV-6 Reverb. Its heen working so far. So, regarding the RV-5, it's either not too durable, or the repair shop is so decadent that they don't bother doing any work to fix the pedal.

I love your vid, one thing I've always loved about the Boss and Roland products was their futuristic image.

I played: punk, funk, punk-funk, hardcore shit, and free jazz as well... nowdays it all became ambient sound with loops, samples, drone and soundscapes > but my DS-1 is still on the board ✌️⚡️✨️(and 1st in chain!).

My first boss pedal was the super phaser ph-2. It must be over 30 years old. I still have it on my little grab and go 6 piece pedal board. You can get some awesome swirly lead sounds and cool clean trippy sounds.

It would be super awesome if you can dive into the BOSS CE-1. My favorite guitarist (John Frusciante) uses this pedal and its sorta his secret weapon when it comes to his clean tone because of the pre-amp section. I hope one day you make a video on it! Love your vids ✌️

My first Boss pedal was actually a VB-2. I read an interview with Robin Guthrie. He called it a genius pedal. This was before the internet really blew up, and nobody I knew had heard of it. I eventually tracked one down and paid about $200 for it. Years later sold it on eBay for closer to $500. Now thinking of getting the Waza. I suspect Just A Girl uses the VB-2.

after watching this video I immediately bought SD-2. What a pedal man!!! What a crunch! I’m never selling it… amazing! And the mode that allows you to switch between crunch and lead??? Is that boss at all?? Killer pedal, highly recommend it

But the Boss SD-1 is the worst pedal in the universe. Nasty asymmetric clipping. Sounds so bad.

Metal Zone was my first pedal ever, even before a tuner or Wah. I just picked up a mint condition DS-1 for short money and I can't wait to play around with it. Boss helped me love playing guitar!

Man I can't remember what my first Boss pedal was but it's probably 25 years ago now, I think it was a Boss SD1 or DS1 who knows? I certainly don't.

Which boss chorus was used on Billy idol - flesh for fantasy? I’m gonna guess the Dimension C. Please correct me if I’m wrong !

My husband Phil Brigham (co-writer and guitarist of “The Chase” from Kill Bill Vol. 2) still uses the molded plastic Boss pedal board he bought in 1986. Other than the TU-2 tuner that also supplies daisy chain power all pedals are MIJ Boss from the 80s : CS2 compressor, SD1 overdrive, noise gate, Dimension C, and DD2 digital delay. Occasionally switches something out or adds a pedal, but keeps returning to the original setup.

A little slow getting to this 😂...1989 I bought a Boss DS-1 from Musician's Friend when it was only a print catalogue and before the glossy paper. I cut a demo with it four years later in 1992, and still holds up. ❤

Had to pawn my 4 boss pedals long ago sadly. Really miss my first, a brown OC-2 octave pedal from around 1998. Sincerely wish I kept that one... Also had a orange DS-1, a purple BF-2 flanger, and a grey RV-3 digital reverb/delay that I got at the same time. For whatever reason the RV-3 never sounded as good to me as it did in the store, but the rest were all great. Especially that octaver, gosh I loved that pedal.

I started with a metal zone in 97. I since then have gotten a Cs2, tu2,ph3,rv5,bf3, dd3. For about a year now I just use a gt100. Boss is the shit. I'm a big gear head. Friends always ask me what to get. I always recommend boss.
