For me, the hype over AI is totally OTT. Many Pixel features are rarely used; even if they arrive in the UK, most still need to. Clearly, with a stagnant mature smartphone market, OEMs are pushing AI to market their devices to sell more (fair enough), but the reality is that a few months after you buy into that, you will wonder what all the fuss is about!

I am a basic smartphone user, so no gaming, video editing and such like, so the Pixel 8 Pro is more than enough for me performance-wise, and its price makes it much better than the S23U in 2023 (£400 cheaper in the UK before great Pixel deals). I would recommend it. It has no thermal issues, battery life is 8-9 hours SOT over two days of use, and day-to-day use is smooth and fast.

Is the Pixel 8 5.93" and Pro 6.4"? Thought that the 8 is 6.2" and 8 Pro is 6.7"

There are a few important things left out in this video : the speakers and the selfie camera! The selfie in pixel 8 is terrible. Check the comments online about blurred pixel selfie cameras. Also, coming from a pixel 3 xl, the speakers are noticeably worse. The pixel 8 has less stereo width and bass. Sad!

I pixel 8 that I have is always utilizes 7gb and ram and most of the time even scrolling feels laggy for me and have to restart the device to make it run smooth. I only installed like 2 more apps that what I got in the pixel 8 really disappointing in that way so far for me.

The pixel 8 and 8 pro have a screen size of 6.17" and 6.7" respectively, not 5.93" and 6.4".

All your pro battery screenshots were on wifi while 8 was on 5G, doesn't that count for some difference as well?

Just got the phone around a couple of months ago. The phone is great but it is not for me because of the following reasons. :

1. I overlooked a very important aspect that 5g does not work despite of the phone supporting the frequency bands if the network/country is not approved by google. The VoLTE and Vo5G also does not work. I travel a lot for work in and around Africa and Asia and other than the official supported networks/countries the phone's software limits the network to 4g.

2. Honestly the network reception/stability was better in my older phone(One plus 8T).

3. A number of features are region locked to supported regions.

4.The service support network to repair the phone is not extensive and is limited.

For top dollar I expected a little better. The above are the

So my suggestion is that if you travel a lot, this phone might not be for you for the above reasons.

Will definitely be looking to replace it in a couple of years if things do not improve.

P.S:I have copy pasted the same comment from a number of other popular reviews in the hope of preventing from making the same mistake I did.

Last good pixel was pixel 5 . New ones only makes sense if you exclusively live in cold areas cause as soon it gets warm , you will have problems, not to mention it has probably the worst modem in any similar priced phone.

Good cameras can only carry you so far , also googles international market team needs a proper wake up when it's priced more than S23 / iphone15 in lots of countries lol

Really good video and as a Reg Pixel 8 owner I would say it's better to get the Pixel 8 pro for the battery life . The reg 8 is just ok it's doable most days but you start to wonder if your going to make it if you have a long day.

I don't recommend pixel s because of that inferior processor and inferior modems being used by Google by choice and it's way overpriced in Australia compared to the States

I'd say for anyone with a 6 or 7 series phone to hold out for the 10/10 Pro since that will be the first TSMC made Tensor and hopefully with a better modem in tow to go with it and closer to being a flagship. I'm plenty happy with my 8 Pro as I was the 7 Pro but I don't push my phone too hard but I wouldn't say it's a $1000 phone, more like $800 especially when there are Chinese SD 8 Gen 3 based phones available for $600.

Pretty good video except for when you are purposely trying to make the fingerprint fail by using the tip of your finger or when lifting your finger extremely fast. In reality, it rarely fails, as long as you hold your fingerprint (not finger tip) until it unlocks (which admitely it's a bit longer than other flagships).

Nice video. I keep waiting on someone to convince me to switch to a pixel. They have so many good things about them but my galaxy phones have always had good cell service while pixels on the same.plan in the same place have relatively poor service.

I just ordered the pixel 8. I had the 4a5g and no longer get security updates as of November. The 8 was discounted about $150 so I figured it was a good time to trade up. The pixel 8 pro, even discounted was going to run over 900 (for 256g) and the extra features didn’t seem worth paying almost 350 more, at least for my uses. I figure I will pay less and then see what the 9 or 10 offers.

G3 a mid range chip? It has last gen top of the line ARM cores, same core in the S23 Ultra and every other flagship X3. As a tech reviewer with an audience you should know this
BTW you need to properly place you finger on the scanner, not the edge of your thumb🤦‍♂
Video Boost has been a game change for me no complaints. If you want the necessary data needed for Video Boost there at all time, you are gonna run out of storage in no time. Not a very well thought out video imo.

The fact that Google can keep up with iPhones and Samsung with performance is incredible
Also when you stop and think that a pixel 8 pro can cost you $800 compared to $1300-1500 on Samsung and iPhone and yet still give you much better pictures than those 2 phones.

Unless you are into gaming and emulation in your device I can totally recommend getting the pixel 8 pro!

I was really hoping for more. We still haven't received Zoom Enhance and Video Boost was a complete disappointment (due to may of the reasons you mentioned). Editing photos is really slow, thanks to everything being processed in the cloud. Signal strength and battery life aren't much of an improvement over last year. Other than the Pixel specific features like hold for me and call screen, it looks like Samsung may have beat them at their own game this year with the S24 series. My S23 Plus was the smoothest phone I've ever used and it still got great battery life.

I'm normally a small phone guy so I bought the regular 8. But I didn't like it. Battery life was terrible and the other than that stood out to me was the build quality was rough. The edges on pieces felt either rough or like they didn't line up well. Just felt unrefined. I never had that bother me before as much as it did on a phone before.

But I went to the 8 pro. Love it. Never looking back. I couldn't be happier with it.

I was recently in a coldplay concert and whilst I took awesome photos and videos on my iphone 13, damn I missed having a telephoto lens. My friend on the other hand had an iphone 15 pro max and he took brilliant pics from his seat, that was far away from where Chris Martin was performing.

My main issue beyond the Tensor G3 in these phones is really the front cameras. From everythng i've seen in both video and images, google seems to have opted for a very soft high contrast processing which usually makes the images and video look both beautified but also eyes and face shadows look extremely unnaturaly dark. Like the person is possesed or something.

In googles marketing of Tensor, they made it seem that Pixel’s AI features are capable because of said Tensor custom chip, but after seeing Samsung on their new S24 with the 8 Gen 3 being able to do most if not all the same capabilities then it startles me.

Just as you said, Tensor is a midrange chipset and thus the 8 series are incredibly overpriced.

Using the Pixel 8
For the fingerprint sensor issue I would say, I have finally found THE PERFECT solution.

I only register both my thumbs as the first Finger. While registering you change left, right, left and so on.
Then when it is cold or a bit wet and my thumb fingerprints will not be valid, I immediately do the second finger registration. Again only left, right, left , right thumb.
Then the same again when my hands are for example a bit dirty or so.

In the end I now have a perfectly working fingerprint sensor. (Whenever the wonderful face recognition won't work because of darkness or so)

Using my Pixel 8 Pro since wednesday and i must say that i am surprised (positively). The main concern for me was the battery life. Coming from the S23 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Nothing Phone 2, the battery seems great! usually ending the day with 5 hours SOT (mixed 50% Wi-Fi and 50% LTE) with 30-35% battery life left.
