Should Trump regain the White House, there’s no reason to believe there will be a free/fair election ever again - nothing that would resemble our current US system. Trump doesn’t have to give up power, per SCOTUS. He’s immune to official actions, such as declaring emergency powers. While acknowledging that Liz and at the end her father spoke instead of remaining silent, I have to ask if they've thought at all how their lack or style of leadership lead the Republican party to Trump. Were they seriously oblivious to what he was. The Frankenstein party obviously overestimate their ability to control or guide their creation. The other thing I dont think enough people contemplate about Jan 6....is what would have happened if the electors, certified by the states, hadnt been grabbed and whisked away to safety, if the chaos would have been too much, the fear too much, the prospect of someones family or friends or colleagues being outside of that chamber where the insurrectionists had been delayed from entering until people were able to be cleared out....and not that the people in the chambers were even aware that they would be able to get to safety before the dam broke.
I watched it on TV as it unfolded and was aghast. I texted 3 people i knew to let them know what was going on, and none of them seemed the least bit concerned, or interested in checking it out. Maybe they thought i was exaggerating. Actually, im sure they did, because after that day, they were stunned and embarrassed - not to have been blase about the whole thing, but at being an american, of being in a country where there was a major party - one of two - which had fallen so far, had so far - and openly - completely jettisoned the beliefs that they had again and again claimed to stand for, and had blatantly and callously lied to people in their bid to win at any cost. I suppose if you look at winning by winning like that, a person very much could get tired of winning, or at least the conscience would have been so heavy and weighted down that they could no longer stand to carry it, i suppose one could get tired of the baggage, the having to say things you have openly been against, be able to swear an oath which you have no interest or intention on following through with, having to support the absoute worst people and be around them constantly because the moral, the ethical, the patriots had been unwilling to stand with you. I suppose that would get tiring. It may cause someone to become sick of winning, like Liz Cheney, who was willing to give it all for doing the right thing - knowing she was more than likely going to be persona non gratis, that she would be kicked off the island and be an orphan from the party her family had helped prop up, shape, position, and had supported from before she was born. I cant imagine winning wouldnt have been overly exhausting to her had she gone along with it so that she didnt make waves. Because she still supported it through Muslim ban, child separation policy, russia, saudia arabia, ivankas china deals, funding by state actors by way of hotels, BLM/antifa hate, covid denial, destroying the idea of wearing masks cos his makeup would be showing, death threats to colleagues, the divisiveness and "lock her up" claims, a border wall that would harm migrating animals, deterance policy for immigration/drug abuse/etc which increases the liklihood of death in order to claim its more dangerous and nothing can be done about it...... I mean, that jan 6 was the straw, when for months the republican party claimed that pandemic efforts were rigging the election. Trump claiming that he won when he didnt..... I mean, not lots of heroism going on there, more like she just got tired of having to win the way she was having to.
