You are so right Mike. Learn from the errors we make. My first catastrophe was when I wa a newbie. I had purchased a midi lathe and was attempting to turn a bowl. I got a catch, it flew off the lathe onto the ways, bounced straight up and hit my fluorescent light fixture. I was picking glass out of my hair and clothes for a good while. Not to mention all over the shop. Luckily no cuts or bruises. Now when folks come into my shop, they ask me why there is hardware cloth covering my light fixtures. I'll tell them, "have I got a tale for you!" Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing! Makes me feel a little better since I have stuff like this happen all the time. It's nice to have a reminder that it happens to everyone so I don't get discouraged.

Thanks Mike, I just lost a nice bowl because I wasn't careful removing the gouge and caught the rim, tool bounced around, big catch and the bowl broke in half. Lost a bit of another one when the tool rest got loose. Your video is a good reminder to stay attentive and careful.. I do watch most of your content and really appreciate your sharing of your time , knowledge and experience. Thanks again.

Hello Mike. I think you could avoid many of your accidents by reducing the speed of your lathe. You're moving pretty fast, it seems to me.

Enjoyed the video, well admit my lathe serves as a missile launcher as well. Thankfully fewer missiles are launched these days though I recently had a blank come apart at the glue joint and go about 30 ft. Thankfully it went opposite where I was standing.

Thanks Mike for the video, but I just don’t understand when you say these type of things happen to all turners. I’ve never experienced any thing like that 🤥. Thanks anyway. 🙄 Cheers, Tom 🤕

Interesting bowl, not a platter.great scalloped sides. Can you tell us how you were able to get a perfect octagon with centre accurately marked. Good video.
