Excellent advice. I have seen interpreters lapse into the over-clarification trap, and it always has hurt their credibility. They think they're being helpful, but either they wind up looking like they're advocating for one side or the other, or they subtly insult the intelligence of one party or the other by implying that they've got to "help then out", which is patronizing.

ОтветитьAs an interpreter, this information is comprehensive and explains really well how to deal with clarifications. The only thing that I may add, and this may be superfluous, is when asking for clarification, in addition to informing the L2 interlocutor that you are asking for clarification, it's a good idea to inform the L1 interlocutor that it is you (in the 3rd person) who is asking for clarification and not the L2 interlocutor. Bravo for this video!
