Tomatoes and cucurbits are among the most produced crops in the world, but are increasingly under threat by emerging viral diseases caused by begomoviruses (transmitted by whiteflies) and tobamoviruses (mechanically transmitted like injuries on plants). To date, there are no rapid and lasting organic remedies on the market to tackle the devastation caused by these plant pests.
The EU-funded VIRTIGATION project aims at developing a set of organic, innovative solutions to safeguard tomato and cucurbit plants from the emerging viral diseases caused by begomoviruses and tobamoviruses.
