I loooove HDR so much I nearly can't live without out if I have the option I always choose HDR 4k on the other hand jea I watch most videos on 480p and don't even notice because I don't care so

A few days ago I changed my TV (I dont buy a gaming monitor because I don't use my pc for gaming) because the backlight LEDs broke.

I bought a Hisesnse 4k 43" IPS for around 200 usd. I chose it because in the country where I live it was the cheapest option in 4k, and i wanted to change to 4k since my previous TV wasn't even full hd (it was 1600x900) and it stretched those pixels across 32"

I spent several days changing settings until I found ones that had the perfect relationship between contrast and deep blacks.

Yesterday I was walking through a mall when I saw a mini led tv (which according to my research is just as good as an OLED, with some differences), when I got home I looked for the test video of the mall tv (the video is called "Floating Garden 8K HDR 60 fps" in case anyone wants to see it), and changed my windows display settings to HDR

When I watch dark content at night the backlighting of the screen is quite noticeable, and unfortunately for me I have some ips bleeding, but, during the day, MAN, IT LOOKS AMAZING

To me it looks exactly the same as the Mini led from the mall, obviously if I did tests in a controlled environment and with the right instruments, it would show a noticeable difference, I mean, if I bought the mini led monitor and put it next to mine it would see a noticeable difference. But, given the circumstances under which I use my TV (I'm in a room with a lot of natural lighting, and my desk is right next to the window) the backlighting of the panel is hidden quite well.

If I get too close and view it from certain angles, the black turns dark grey with a blueish tint, but from the distance I'm viewing it at it's practically unnoticeable, and since the tv frame is grey and shimmer a bit in natural light, it feels like it has the deep blacks of an OLED

That said, when I watch normal content with the display settings set to HDR it looks horrible, everything looks pale, but, yeah. Under the right conditions and with content made for HDR, my screen looks as good as my memory of that Mini LED in the mall

Edit: I just read a forum with some people with oled monitors saying that deep blacks are more important or noticeable when the room is very dark, so, I'm pretty happy with my TV (although I would have liked to spend $50 more for the VA option, which apparently fixes IPS bleeding and has a better contrast, noticeable in lowlight conditions)

Ghost of tsushima in HDR is really stunning. Tested Horizon Zero Dawn, Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor and also Forza as well as many HDR movies. But GoT was breathtaking

this bro is complaining of the use of HDR and that's me that only buys Amoled or Oled screen because I can't even look at a piece of LCD during nighttime... I mean, black should be black, and colours should be colours and lights, should produce more light on the screen, it's not that hard

It's always yellow and I hate it thank good I can turn this off even on my phone 📱

I don't like HDR and I tried to avoid it when possible because the color does look slightly better but it bothers me a lot and I have to get used to the color shift. it also usually hurts my eyes too since I have sensitive eyes.

Also HDR makes your game lag a very big lot. I had 90 FPS on Minecraft (yeah, Minecraft...) and after enabling HDR it went down to 30 !!!

i was checking a photo i took on my pixel 8, i love the oled screen and ultra hdr on this phone, but at night, even at the lowest brightness I got flashed

When I watched HDR content on a cheap android phone, it was very bland, but when I switched to Galaxy S23+, the same video looked good

Just recently I bought $1100 glossy OLED HDR monitor and can I say that it's truly a game changer and some next gen type of tech. Not a gimmick like VR and not something that you can barely see but a real genuine improvement over existing tech making games look so much more immersive, no kiddin it feels as if you can reach your hand and touch like it was a window into a game.
Tho in order to experience real HDR you have to get an OLED there's no other way as of now. It's also a huge pain in the ass to set up too since barely any games have native support for it and not every HDR implementation is a good one. There are no guides or how-to's either but once you do set it up right and have a PC with at least RTX 4080 Super with path tracing and all that I guarantee it'll more than impress you!

HDR is cool when you think about it but when you arent thinking about HDR there is like no difference and yeah not that important but cool to look at.

For few people not having HDR on Netflix on the new mobile devices may turn out to be a deal breaker. And I still can't believe it.

Windows really doesn’t handle SDR programs with HDR enabled. For some reason when you alt-tab out of Minecraft it makes it extremely dim
