How to use Public Transportation in Oslo (a guide)

I live in oslo,,public transportation is organized, there are of course some problems mostly because of weather conditions but what I can't believe here in oslo is that I never expected to see the train station so dirty and in so bad condition, I am just shocked by that😢😢

Hey Pal, im visiting oslo for the second time and this time i wanna take the bus to get to The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History Norsk Folkemuseum. I believe its the 30 bus right? But my question is, once i get the daily pass, do i have to scan it? Show it to the driver? Do i have to tell them where i get off? Do they say what the next stop will be?

I'm visiting Norway right now and I wish I knew this useful information before 😂 but it has been pretty entertaining figuring out how the transport system works here. I love how clean and organized the city is and how kind and friendly people are. The only thing is that you must prepare your pocket because your estimated budget possibly won't be enough to afford every expense in here. Oslo is kind of expensive but it's totally worth it since the place offers a lifetime experience and unforgettable memories.

Great video Pål. Can I ask you a very practical question please. When you buy a ticket on the Ruter app, how do you enter and exit metro stations, buses, and trams. As an example, in London you have to touch in and out on the Tube but only touch in on buses. In Stockholm you only touch in on the metro (not out) but on trams an inspector scans your card/app. I think this is really practical information for tourists. Thanks.

This is a good video for everyone who is going to Oslo. I'm going to Oslo myself next week. I wanna buy the 24 hour ticket in the Ruter app. But if you have this e-ticket on your app: do you need to scan your e-ticket before going on a metro, bus or tram? Or is that only the case when you have a paper ticket?

Is there a kiosk for tickets at the airport?
Is it cheeper to buy a 7 day pass than 24hour....I'd be using it for 5 of the 7 days.

T-bane is short for tunnel-bane 😊, refering to how it runs through tunnels underground ! And as additional info, you can ride all the different means of transportation on the same ticket (i.e. take the trikk and then a boat to the islands)

Unfortunately, the Ruter app doesn't recognize foreign phone numbers, in my case a swiss number.

Public transport in Oslo is pretty bad and just getting worse. Only reason it's the best solution is because the politicians actively try to make it as difficult as humanly possible to own a car in the city.

Thank you! I would travel with my teenage daughter and of course see a lot and also like to experience a bit of shopping & Café‘s in addition to museums and culter so that is fun for her ( and me!). Your clip was very informative not taking the tourist buses - simply relaying on public Transport.

The T in T-bane stands for tunnelbane, as a lot of it goes underground.

The T in T-bane stands for Tunnel.
Has nothing to do with the T-shaped electric pickup on the roof. That was a thing only on the western lines BEFORE they got converted to metro standard.
The original T-bane has always had an electric third rail.

I have downloaded the Ruter app on my phone.
Sorry to ask you 3 more questions:
1) Once I am at point A and want to go to point B, i buy a ticket (on the phone or a physical one) and get in the bus (or subway). Do I have to scan that ticket somewhere? do I need to show it to someone? or do I keep it on my phone (or in my pocket if it is a physical one) and show it only if someone asks me to? Do I show it to the bus driver?
2) Also, if I travel with my wife, can i buy 2 tickets with my app, or does my wife also have to download the app and buy her own ticket?
3) Also, if I am to go first by bus then, say, by subway on the same trip, can I use the same ticket (electronic or physical)?
