The United States was in WW2 for a little under 4 years (from December 194, and really starting in spring of 1942, to the autumn of 1945).
At the time, this was simply not a thing America understood. They had entered into World War I only in December of 1917, and the war unexpectedly ended in November of 1918, with America only at war for 11 months.
The US' other recent wars at the time included the Spanish-American War, at just 7 months, and various minor interventions mostly by the USMC in Mexico and the Caribbean at a few months each.
The USA had not been in a war that lasted over 1 year, let alone 4 years, since the Civil War. That might give some context as to why he and his buddy didn't expect to actually get to join up in time.
I am grateful for this channel documentation of the Greatest Generation
ОтветитьThanks for your service.
My Dad lied about his age and went into the Army.
Now half our country hates the US, but they wouldn’t think of leaving! Go figya
ОтветитьJust wondering about our country now, think almost everyone would rush to sign up now.....doubt it very much. This country will never be rhe same as each passing day goes by....sad 😢😢
ОтветитьIf the states didn,t put imbargoes and block japans oil access with other countries they wouldn't have bombed them they wanted the fleet destroyed so they wouldn,t block their access to oil thats the truth behind it. They didn,t bomb for no reason. They states forced them to do it
ОтветитьThank you for your service! How do you think the young people would respond today?
Ответить🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 thank you 🙏
ОтветитьThank you for your service!
ОтветитьMy dad and uncle inlisted the day after Pearl Harbor. Y dad ended up in the marines because the line was shorter!
ОтветитьI Thank you Sir for your Services and Sacrifices God bless you and your family in Jesus Name Amen USA ❤️💙💜🛐✝️😇🙏🙏🙏🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
ОтветитьWhat if…The Japanese attacked and we knew they were going to, the entire time… what if, we hung our sailors out to be bait… what if we blamed the two highest ranking military leaders there, for failing to protect our ships…. What if we hid and falsified the evidence that exonerated them…but they found it and took the Gov. To court to clear their names … AND WON. What if …🤔🤔🤔
ОтветитьMany who had already served prior to Pearl Harbor re enlisted.
ОтветитьThank you Sir 👏 God Bless ❤
ОтветитьGod Bless you, Thank You for your Service ❤❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьAnd remember folks, the Roosevelt administration knew well in advance of this coming attack. Know historical FACT. If we had been better prepared we would not have lost thousands of young men at pearl harbor. Thank you democrats.
ОтветитьJapan made us the most powerful military in the world, when we didn't even realize we could be one. Thank you!
ОтветитьMy ol daddy, he joined the Marines, Monday morning, Dec 8th 1941, did the whole war in the 3rd tanks ........e
ОтветитьAMERICA SALUTES YOU SIR 🇺🇸
ОтветитьGod bless our vets
ОтветитьFDR was re-elected promising no more American sons die in Europe's wars. He knew England, the last standing free country in Europe, could not hold out forever against Germany. He believed Germany would attack the USA after England fell. He had to get us into the war.
He had developed a 7 point plan to provoke Japan into attacking us. It was implemented perfectly. We had broken the Japanese top secret comm codes. We knew Pearl Harbor was about to be attacked. FDR murdered thousands to get us into the war.
Is FDR a hero?
Thank you for your service.
ОтветитьJapan attacked the US because we were attacking Japan's assets in the far east.
ОтветитьThis is the best generation to ever walk on the earth! These guys knew they would probably die by joining the Military, but they got in line to join the Military to keep us free and we do what we do? We do nothing to support these men! The greatest generation that we have ever seen and will never see again!!
ОтветитьThat speech was made the next day. Not "just bombed" Pearl Harbor.
ОтветитьI don’t get the “vibe” young people would “rally” to the recruiting offices, begging to serve their country. Not these days. It’s a different America than even the one I was raised in, where we had a national identity, not defined by political affiliations or corporate interests. Not like today.
*As a Veteran Im proud of my time in the service and those I served with. Would I want my sons to die for the current state of affairs…absolutely not.
Two 16 year old kids hoping to fight for their country legends
ОтветитьThank you for your service. May God bless you and your family!!
ОтветитьImagine the kids today..especially the new arrivals..if China or Russia attacked, they would run and hide, or even protest the armed forces
ОтветитьAppreciate you! My father was also fought in the war. He was assigned to a mine sweeper. Needless to say, Japan didn’t like them.
He was 94 when he died, late in life, when he thought of the war, he would just say -Why what good did it do.
I’m not afraid of much and I’m sure I’d fight like hell if I had to, but ya gotta wonder if you have what it takes to be as brave as them!
RIP!
Wow, one moment you're just an anonymous average American adolescent going to a neighborhood malt shop with a childhood friend to drink malts like you two very likely did pretty regularly, and the next moment history came to your little corner of the world!
Ответитьeverybody wanted to go into the service, ❤❤❤I love our people and Nation An Almighty God's name. My Country Tis of Thee✝️✝️✝️🛐🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ответитьour nation in the name of the Holy Trinity, I was giving us the blessing of this generation❤❤❤
ОтветитьThe three us service men in the anti-aircraft gunners nest called diamond head at pearl harbor said there were no Japanese planes at pearl harbor dec 7 th 1941
ОтветитьIm Mexican (not that anyone cares) but I very much admire all the veterans and the ones who have passed away their stories are incredible. I have seen how they are sometimes treated after all they did for this land it’s s not easy giving your life and mental health in exchange for the freedom of your country fighting to the death .. Thank you, you did NOT die in vain and your are NOT disabled in vain.
You are real heroes with great valor. Respect 🫡 🇺🇸
God bless all who served from a boomer.🌹❤️🇺🇸
ОтветитьBless u. My dad lied about his age to enlist. ❤
ОтветитьThe real tragedy is the american government knew they were coming and let it happen.
Ответить🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
ОтветитьI'm not trying to take anything away from this man but my Dad joined the Army when he was 16. He and my Grandmother lied and said he was 17. He turned 17 in Korea. He told them he wanted in the infantry and wanted to go to Korea.
ОтветитьThank you for your service and sacrifice, sir. You are truly an example of what an American hero should be. Here's to the greatest generation .
ОтветитьThank you to all and to all who sacrifice their life to protect our freedom and rights to the men and women that still through today protect him 24 seven 365 days a year🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
ОтветитьGOD BLESS AND THANK YOU SIR !😊
ОтветитьLove, honor, respect, and gratitude for your service and to all who served and are serving!
Ответить🇺🇸
ОтветитьIt must have been as monumental as 9/11 for my generation when America attacked the World Trade Center in order to get America to go "kill a goat herder living in a cave in Afghanistan." Whatever the real story is, I will never know.
ОтветитьImagine being alive to see the best of this country and now seeing the worst of it...these college wimps today would never have the stones to take on the axis
ОтветитьThe Japanese attack on pearl harbour was ordered by Hidiki Tojo
