lol there is no South Pole. And you can’t get close to the edge without several artificial suns
ОтветитьThis ship is England!
ОтветитьI’m commenting on every video #11
Ответитьtheir were maps at 1500s of that place with no ice and in 18-1900s they said they found it "again" when humans exploded more land beyond that and what we know we have
ОтветитьSo Scott was willing to shoot the ponies that would take them half way to their destination, but his own team faced a worse death than the horses he killed in the pursuit of his ambition.
ОтветитьNorge🦾🦾🇧🇻🇧🇻🇧🇻🇧🇻🇧🇻🔥🔥🔥
ОтветитьBuild a statue of Roald Amundsen Olav style in central town square and celebrate this Norwegian Amundsen Neil Armstrong style..
Ben🇸🇪🇳🇴🇸🇪🇳🇴🇳🇴
those bizarre photos not included in this video?
Ответитьim norwegianphobic
ОтветитьThe irony was -- UNLIKE Scott Amundsen was far away being some Antarctica expert. He had never visited the soil before and had been close to the continent only once, many years before. He had to study everything on the run.
Amundsen left the Antactica at once after coming back to coast and wasn´t interested in the fate of Scott. Although he was able to organise the salvage operations to help Scott if needed. It was told to him many times later.
Scott was quite foolish organising the expedition. He ignored the Shackleton`s warnings. Shackleton almost reached to the pole but to save his men, he returned. Scott made tons of mistakes and...
Great video - You fail to mention the scurvy though...
ОтветитьI had a test with this as its topic, I was tasked to write an essay but there were no images and film. I see it now and wow this feels more sadder then I thought it would be
ОтветитьHow youre gonna compete in the cold against ppl from Norway. Thats a no no. Anyways maximum respect for the crew.
ОтветитьThere’s a statue of him in my hometown of New Zealand. I was drinking in the weekend and decided to climb it. Went smoothly, but after I got down I wanted to learn about the dude I just climbed upon. So here I am. I know it’s disrespectful to climb a statue but it was fun asf so idc
ОтветитьI recommend listening to "Cautionary Tales" by Tim Harford. He dedicates three episodes to this incredible tale. The cold temperatures were just one of many many very interesting factors affecting both Scott's and Amundsen's trips. Fascinating.
ОтветитьWhat horrifies me is the shameless littering they did in a pristine environment.
ОтветитьGreat series. Thank you!
ОтветитьThere is something so human about these trips to the South and North poles. A tragic hopefulness met with sheer harsh reality. They seem to represent life itself.
ОтветитьA story about brits and norweigeans and u still use idiotic fareinheit
ОтветитьThe race to the North Pole was even more interesting. Santa won but at what cost
ОтветитьScott never planned for a race, his first and foremost goal was scientific exploration. Amundsen hid his plans to go for the pole (seeing the North pole priority, his original goal, had been taken from him) from everyone, even his crew, until they were at sail. Scott never had a sporting chance at pole priority.
Highly recommend Ran Fienne's book on the matter ("Captain Scott")
'Didn't see it coming', not really the words you want to hear from a polar explorer!
ОтветитьScott’s «meticulous planning» extended to making a last minute decision to add a 5th person to the team that would make the dash for the pole. This had the unfortunate consequence that previously weighed out rations meant for 4 men, now had to be divided between 5, depriving all 5 men of precious calories on a daily basis from then on.
Not quite the masterstroke of planning on Scott’s part.
The Norwegians on the other hand, gained weight during their trek, having plenty of food to eat. Not only their sled dogs, which they would «harvest» and consume en route (which also protected them from scurvy, as dogs produce vitamin C naturally in their bodies), but also due to the fact that they had prudently laid out one depot per 1 degree latitude on the Ross ice shelf (a total of 5 depots), which ensured the Norwegians plenty of sustenance on their way back to their base camp.
North west passage ,the guy they found under ice they used his testicals to bring him back to life
ОтветитьThe fact that their bodies were never recovered makes it much sadder, no clue where their bodies are. But surely would be in great condition under the ice somewhere.
Ответитьtoo bad mrbeast did it and he is still alive
ОтветитьSo sad
ОтветитьThe real meticulous planner was Amundsen. Scott just roleplayed planning.
ОтветитьTo blame the tragedy on low temperature is way to simple. The expedition was badly planned and they were to late. To expect the temperature to be avrege is naive, and I do not think Scott expected that. If you the avrege you also know the low and high temp for the season. Knew the temp could be that low. He was to late and should have turned back earlier.
ОтветитьTruly can’t imagine anything worse than a lonely death in the the cold, harsh, great white nothing.
ОтветитьBritish Explorers not English
ОтветитьBritish does not equal English. One of the team members was Welsh K believe.
ОтветитьI just visited the Fram museum in Oslo and read up a bit about this race to the South Pole. I want to point out that Scott had ponies, dogs AND motorized sledges, plus a much larger team than Amundsen. In fact the Norwegian explorer was full on planning to reach the North Pole until he changed his plans last minute (two other explorers had claimed to have reached it at that point).
ОтветитьThe British would have colonized and claimed Antartic as theirs had they been succesful . Glad they were second and all died. 😁
ОтветитьAntarctica 🇦🇶
ОтветитьTheir photographs they took are shocking and profound for history, Google it if you're reading this. There used to be pyramids.
My thoughts on why are a polarshift and the great flood.
There Ain't No South Pole It's The Edge of Being Under The Dome! Fox! Rock's Czar!
ОтветитьA point to survival, Scott took 5-men and only 4 were planned for the final try, leaving the strongest man of all to return with an officer suffering scurvy, Tom Crean, who in their last miles to the base the officer failed, Crean did 36-miles solo on a biscuit & some chocolate to get help, dog teams made hours before a blizzard moved in.
Crean was the unsung hero, Scott denied his wont of being among the 1st to the pole saying you got a bit of a cold, Crean was devastated yet too loyal to object, it saved his life to be with Shackleton, again as an unsung hero compared to Worsley & The Boss.
Ymmv 🍺
such disregard for the ponies lives
ОтветитьBritish team
Ответитьyup 1912 really isn't a great year in terms of exploration, epic voyage like RMS titanic. And also in both cases nature reacted differently to what experts might have predicted.
Ответитьf
ОтветитьWhat book was used for this episode
ОтветитьCan't beat the Viking when it comes to extreme expedition really.
ОтветитьWe aren't gonna talk about how the plan was to shoot the ponies as apart of the trip. Like maybe a lil karma was involved, you never know.
Ответитьwhat if the governments hunger gamed this
ОтветитьMerci infiniment.
ОтветитьMy girlfriend and her family say they are a part of Amundsen family line, kinda cool.
