Is the Ketogenic Diet Effective in Treating Schizophrenia? | with Dr. Chris Palmer

I have tried and tried to get the mental health system here in Iowa to start using the ketogenic diet as an option but efforts are wasted on ignorant uncaring providers..

I’d like to know though how this affects the more severe deficits in schizoaffective disorder, the personality issues the devastating withdrawal, anhedonia and negative symptoms. There’s a big portion of schizophrenic people who just have the deficits without any real positive symptoms. How does this affect that in the same way that physical exercise would work for that?

I can attest that keto helps a lot with my depression and schizophrenia-like negative symptoms. Just jumping into it now after a few months' pause. Not sure if it is long-term sustainable but it is good to have that option.

Thank you Doctor Palmer for saying some people have adverse effects with so many medications. I am one of those people who don’t do well on medications and I even had anaphylaxis for the Cshot and the doctors told me they never heard of it among other ridicule and ignorant remarks because I don’t take all these medications they want to give me.

This is soooo great!! I am myself on keto diet and went down 20 kg! I know how it helps with all kind of ailments, but not that it could also help schizofreni!! My son has this sickness and now I can see there is real HOPE listening to this wonderful doctor!! He is absolutely great human being! I wish I could contact him in person!! Follow a ketogenic carnivore diet for mental health and it really has made all the difference. I've been ketogenic for 7 years now. If I accidentally go over 5-10g of carbs I see symptoms return.

Why a keto book for mental illnesses and not just keto diet?

Instead of animal fats, can the fat in nuts and seeds be a substitute, and have the same effect as the standard Keto diet on schizophrenia?

What about ketonuria? I'm reading this is a direct effect of this diet and it's actually dangerous to have those high level of ketone in blood.
