i'd say they overnerfed it cause if u aint cheesing calamity with the Jetstream Sam name then muramasa is useless until you kill the boss for it and that boss is a mid game boss meaning you could get weapons that deal way more dps than muramasa past that point the muramasa needed a tiny nerf due to it dealing almost 100k dps with the correct armor set but i would think a swing speed nerf woulda done it or nerfing it to 10k damage per swing due to the other weapons dealing from 8k-19k damage at that point then i woulda been more balanced tho it is a easy alternative to skip most of the game if you know armor progression and equipment

i dont get why i got it. Im literally prehardmode and i went to uh acid place and randomly just got it when i checked my inventory

Y'all he is lying u can use the murasama early with the character name but u won't have a chest with it inside u still need to get it from the underground place

idk why, my characters name is jay, Im post moonlord, but not devourer of gods. I got it unlocked and actively using it. Very confused.

I've tried it with "Jetstream Sam" and "Samuel Rodrigues" but it isn't working even if I also have the Calamity Mod on.

For anyone wondering why the cheese no longer works, they changed it so you can no longer use player name trick to get the item early.
Here's the patch notes:

2.0.3.007:
- Nerfed damage from 3001 to 2222, but buffed critical strike chance from 34% to 65%.
- No longer has a 200% size modifer, but now grants 6 ID-static immunity frames instead of 21.
- Every third swing of the blade now deals 200% base damage.
- Now unlocked after defeating Devourer of Gods instead of Yharon, and can no longer be unlocked early by using certain player names.
- Added new visual effects when hitting enemies.
