I am wondering if these kind of temperatures could possibly damage the laptops internals. Is it possible?

So i get there is somewhat of a trade off no matter if the vents are opened or closed but in your opinion, which is better, which components are more important to be kept cool.

thanks for the video, my G15 is on the way and will arrive Thursday :) Is there any way you could test the cooling with the outer vents partially open? Maybe a comparison with the outer halves open vs the inner halves, also?

What if you disable cpu boost in windows and keeping it at base ghz?

So technically the life of the laptop can be prolonged a bit if the vents are closed off. Also, I don't understand the idle temps, those seem way off for me. As I'm watching this video I have 2 more tabs open and the armoury crate software open and its never going over 43C. Idle it usually sits at around 38-40C and my cpu never ran over 89C under max load while maintaining 4.3Ghz (4800hs and gtx1660ti spec)

As soon as I got mine, I immediately removed the covers on those vents. Just like what you've said, I'd rather deal with a hot keyboard than a hot GPU and CPU to make sure it'll last longer than I'm expecting it to. Although the hot keyboard isn't a problem while gaming since most of the time my hands will be on the left side of the keyboard and rarely reach keys around "Y" which where most of the heat is. So far I'm satisfied what I have, I only reach 80°C above when I activate turbo boost with ambient temperature of 30°C above but most of the time I have turbo boost off so I only reach maximum of 76°C while gaming.

unrelated, but how do you guys feel about the display? I'm kind of dissapointed in it. At least coming from my school laptop (Surface 2), the colors seem a lot less accurate on the G15 and just looks worse overall

My G15 (4800h, 1660ti) seems to be hitting and staying at 93 degrees during gaming with the vents off. It's on performance mode. Do you think I could reach lower somehow or am I stuck with it in the 90's as that seems a little high to me!

If you add a cooling pad (with the fan on the center) with open vents, do you think can help temp at keyboard?

Dang, you must have some busted speakers because I have the same exact laptop, tried the same exact video with the volume cranked all the way up, and didn't hear any distortion. I will say that the bass is too woofy for my tastes and tends to muddy the sound, but other than that, my speakers sound fine to me.

I don't game much, but I will say as far as performance and thermals go, taking those vent covers off makes this thing a BEAST in terms of content creation! I can't recommend this lappy enough!

For the speaker issue, I found out that by very gently poking the black, magnet-looking part of the speaker with a blunt object and observing the plastic cover move about, you can fix the vibration that occurs at high volumes. I suspect it may be because of some speaker components loosening, causing the vibrating, and pressing the speaker down sets it back in its place.

My G15 originally had the vibration issue on the left speaker, and this method worked wonders for me. Before it would rattle whenever anything resembling bass played at >40% volume, now it plays songs perfectly even at 100%.

Why not test the thermals by lifting up the laptop? Like on my gtx 1050 4gb i managed to OC its to cores to 2ghz and memory to 4333mhz. Had also repasted and cleaned out all the dust and now its temps doesn't go beyond 70 degrees. Under heavy gaming load like modded gta v. Got a 8-10fps boost over stock.

Also why not test your max q 2060 by overclocking it? Core clocks should reach like 1700mhz or so. And a hefty memory OC would help a lot too. Maybe you'll get a sizable boost to performance.

Definitely helped me out with the open vents!! I have the previous generation G15 and I took the bottom panel off today and found out I had two vents covered!! No wonder why my laptop was freezing/ crashing it's because of the heat!! I think it has fixed my problem now, been using it all day and not a single crash!! :D
