SGs seem to be a real line in the sand for people. So are you a fan?
ОтветитьI have two and one of them is giving me more problems than any guitar. The G string would not stay intimated so I put a roller bridge on it. Then I noticed how crappy the pick ups were got new pick up Snap and all of a sudden the bridge pick up went out headache headache headache
ОтветитьOh, I get it. "dont buy an SG" CLICKBAIT!
ОтветитьI have been playing guitar for 48 years, and I have only ever owned one for a short period of time before I sold it. Didn't like ANYTHING about the guitar. It technically wasn't a SG, but a 1961 Les Paul Custom {white with gold plated hardware}.
ОтветитьI love my SG!! IMO, they are the best and meanest looking guitars ever.
I saved up for my first SG as a teenager after going to see The Kids Are Alright and watching Pete Townshend, my guitar hero, larger than life up on the screen playing an SG in The Who's heyday.
As soon as you pick one up it feels different. And like the video says, playing one feels different too. Yes, the lay out can seem busy and it's neck heavy. It can be a handful, kind of like an old muscle car without shoulder strap seat belts, air bags, disc brakes etc But rewarding as hell when you get rocking with it!
What I like: Light weight, total access to all parts of the fretboard. Don't like: Things you said. Think I'd go with a Firebird or Flying V. Also, why are you playing sitting down?
ОтветитьGot one. Play it standing up. Love it.
ОтветитьAs long as Angus has his I'm good.
ОтветитьMy first quality guitar was an SG so I'll tell you the truth they're GREAT!
ОтветитьI don’t get what’s wrong with the holy grail of guitars
Sure it’s not for metal but it can play anything with the appropriate amp or cab
Best band to play with a SG is AC⚡️DC or any 70’s rock band.
I own a Les Paul, a strat, a Fender Jaquar and an SG. I don't find myself making huge adjustments in my playing switching from one to the other. I think the SG is an incredibly misunderstood guitar due to the association with AC/DC and hard rock/heavy metal. In reality, the SG produces wonderful clean tones too and can be used for any style of music that uses an electric guitar. Both the humbucker and P90 versions are good. It's a very much an all-purpose work horse type guitar. Yes, you should play one before you buy it but keep an open mind about this guitar. It's a classic for a reason.
ОтветитьFramk Marino is one of the most Iconic guitarist on the planet, known for playing SG.
But you made a few valid points
I like them myself, world is full of opinions
I’ve really tried to love SGs but I just can’t. They hang wrong on me, even when the necks aren’t pulling. They just aren’t for me.
ОтветитьI have a Fender Stratocaster American professional 2. I want a guitar with sound more like Gibson without breaking the bank but people don't recommend Epiphone so I was on the fence about getting either PRS or Gibson SG. Now I am leaning more toward gibson. I think PRS sounds more like somewhere between Gibson and Strat.
ОтветитьYou said the SG feels like everything shifted to the left. I actually think PRS and les paul are shifted to the right compared to my fender american professional 2 so I think I will like SG.
ОтветитьI didn't have money for the original SG from the USA, so I bought the Vintage VS6, a copy of the SG. The guitar is extremely easy and fast to play, the sound is excellent on the old Peavey amplifier.
ОтветитьGibson freaking sucks and that's just the way It is. Look how many players are turning to non Gibson guitars made in China.
Ответить1. Head stock breaks
2. Tuning instability
3. Poor quality control and inflated price
Seems to me that he was struggling for reasons not to buy one lol they're Amazing guitars.
ОтветитьI've played almost nothing but S. G. type of guitars. 🖤. for over 30years. I love the S.G. 🖤
ОтветитьBefore arguing to anything, consider that Angus would likely sound killer even with a stringed broomstick
ОтветитьLoved my ol’ 73. Unfortunately, I sold it many years ago.
ОтветитьSg’s are like that one chick you wish you’d talked to years earlier.
ОтветитьI love the SG standard! It's a great guitar!...
ОтветитьI love the SG standard! It's a great guitar!...
ОтветитьYou are right in your point of view. SG's have a drastically different feel than other guitars. I have one but I love it. The only problem I had was installing my EMG'S. It was a bitch fitting the battery in that thin body. I ended up just using one volume for both pickups and no tone controls. It works for me though.
ОтветитьI want a 61 sg!...
ОтветитьDo not buy one. Buy two. Or more.
ОтветитьI started with an SG, big fan
ОтветитьSurprised that what I consider #1 wasn’t included. Which is if you think you (or someone else) might accidentally bonk the headstock against anything hard, or bonk anything moderately firmly against the headstock twice a year, it will for sure at least crack half of those times and if you’re unlucky snap right off. Both can be fixed but it’s a heartache. Many well used and toured SGs have had several headstock repairs over a decade. It was less of a big deal in 1970 when it didn’t cost as much do get it done, but these days it can be several hundred, depending on the break, not including finish work to make it not look like a cracked headstock. It’s not something you worry about with most other designs, especially Fender styles/bolt on necks. SGs are pretty famous for Broken Headstock Syndrome :)
Ответить1 or 2 Heavy Metal Legends didn't Agree with You ............
ОтветитьWhat you said about SG's 'feeling different ' is how I feel about my Les Paul. My SG feels he most natural and easy to play out of every guitar own.
ОтветитьYou couldn’t pay me enough to sell my SG
ОтветитьDude, you need to find another line of work.
ОтветитьNot one solid legitimate reason to not want one. This is not the style of guitar you have to constantly work the tone compared to say a Stratocaster. It’s just set and forget. And with the exception of a humbucking Les Paul it’s not too different but say you switch from a PRS, Gretsch, or Ibanez RG then yeah it’s gonna be a totally different tie experience. As far as the “neck dive” myth that’s a big NO!!! Who plays the guitar with out their hand on the neck....no one with the exception of plucking one open not in a show of way. How this concept has been around for so long is beyond me and now that millennials and Gen Z propagate this myth I fear it’ll always be around because they really know how to ruin a good thing. The absolute heaviest band I’ve ever heard or seen live use Les Pauls and SG’s. They can handle tuning down to A or even G standard with ease just use 10-56 or 10-60 string gauges and it will absolutely crush.
ОтветитьStrange, I've never heard Frank Marino complaine........
ОтветитьYes, there are some bad things about the S.G., but there are some great things too. They sound pretty damn fat, and the upper fret access is second to none. I have also never played one that had bad or high action. They usually play like butter.
ОтветитьIve only played SG's for 30 years, best guitars ever, perfect for playing high on the neck.
ОтветитьBest sounding guitar I've ever played was an 82 SG. I so regret selling it and am now looking at a gothic for my daughter.
ОтветитьI have a Japanese SG clone from around 1970-1980 without intonation adjustment or anything but insane fretwork the action is just unmatched by any guitar I've seen, also it sounds amazing, it doesn't have real humbuckers nor p90s but they don't try to sound like ones so that's fine with me but also some slight neck dive, All in all a very good guitar for 100€ used never played a real SG tho
ОтветитьI own 10 guitars 2 Gibsons, 2 Gretches,a Matin and 3 Epiphones and if I had to keep only 3 it would be the Epiphone 339 and 335 and the Gibson SG Standard. Note they all have bound fretboards.
ОтветитьNeck dive is the dumbest thing to not want an SG for. The Les Paul is like playing a brick but nobody ever brings that up.
ОтветитьI've just bought a second hand 2000 model gibson sg cherry red n I'm buzzing with it, it beats my gibson junior les paul which doesn't have an intonational bridge or my Fender acoustic. My sg has 2 twin pickups p90s I think I'm contemplating getting humbuckers. It's heavy as its solid mahogany but haven't had any neck dive issues
Ответить🤪 Because you’re not Angus Young!
ОтветитьI like SG only with distortion, i put 2 Dimarzio caps, match!
ОтветитьFor some reason I resisted getting an SG for years, despite so many of my favourite players using them. Finally gave in and I kick myself for not buying one earlier. For some reason I always thought of them as a sort of "Les Paul Lite" but in reality they're far closer to being a fatter, faster playing Telecaster in a lot of ways.
ОтветитьThis video says nothing insightful, whatsoever.
Everyone knows about the neck dive, and it's usually overrated. If it bothers you, put a tremolo/vibrato on or or put a fishing weight in the electronics compartment.
"Plug gets in the way of the knob"... That's just stupid. Give me a break.
The advantages are that it's light, it has its own unique sound, and the last fret is flush with the body, giving easier access to every fret. Didn't even mention that.
Not having it's guts held in with a plastic pickguard, like a strat is also a plus.
Prefer an sg over les Paul.
ОтветитьYeah I get it. Played one today for the 1st time in years. I felt lost feels like the neck is out of spec, feels too long and positions seem out of place. Felt 4” too long. I have a LP Strat and Tele. I think the Tele covers enough of the SG territory.
ОтветитьI heeded your warning about SGs when you said, "Don't get one!" So I bought four.
Ответить
