I know everybody says this is a badass scene bla bla bla, but i think this scene as well as the whole Bene Gesserit story line is total crap. What EXACTLY is this supposed to show us? What does this "an animal will gnaw off its paw to survive" NONSENSE mean? Is she telling us that animals have an instinct to survive but humans don't have that instinct? How is it better to accept death then to fight for your life? This whole "test" doesn't make any sense. Also it says absolutely NOTHING about someones character how sensible he or she is to pain. The problem with Frank Herbert is that he wrote books about subjects that were so far beyond his comprehension that it isn't funny anymore.

What if Paul had to stick his pecker inside the box ? He will probably fail the test but it is highly unlikely the Reverend Mother would actually jab him with the Gom Jabbar. If she did she and the others of her ilk would never leave the castle alive.

I realize this video is over 1 year old and therefore my comment/question will most likely go unnoticed but I will ask it anyway...As the Reverend Mother is testing Paul, the camera shifts to Jessica outside the room as we hear Paul scream in pain for the 2nd time, meanwhile Jessica is praying out loud, "I must not fear, fear is the mind killer, etc.". My question is, is Jessica praying to herself, to calm herself down, or is Jessica sending a psychic prayer to Paul, to help him overcome the pain/test?

The "battle" of this scene is all portrayed in the face and it is guided and supplemented by the music and SFX. On set they have no clue what it sounds like at any given moment but they have a box, and 2 faces battling. Really captivating.

Scene was pretty well done, though I still can't help but to lament at the ammount of dialogue that was cut in order to fit in the runtime.
