About 10 years ago I saw Disturbed at a festival playing a cover of Baba O'Riley. David wanted the crowd to sing the first bridge and he announced it like "I know you've been waiting for this". They turned everything off so you could only hear the crowd, and there was just the sound of silence. Me and maybe 3 other people who knew the lyrics and started singing "Don't cry...", but we were too embarassed to continue. That felt worse than any awkward moment I've had on a first date.

I went to a Toxic Holocaust show, they played second to last although they were the head band, and at the end they exited the stage and a random guy came and asked if we wanted more, like yeah we knew they'd be back.

And i honestly enjoyed more the last bands show(Ambush),they were much more charismatic.

i was at a local show last year and the headliner band played a pretty mellow set all expect for the agent orange cover at the end. Crowd actually was very engaged, so when they finished the front man turned to look at the band and said “run it again!” and they played the same agent orange song a second time. hmmmmmm

With the encore thing there's a band called the Wildhearts who have a well rehearsed encore routine that the fans are in on, where they leave then the fans sing the hidden track from one of their albums, which has 3 overlapping parts, the fans divide it up without any need for direction then the band come back on. Occasionally though the singer just says "heres the bit where we fuck off, you sing for a bit, then we come back... How about we cut out the middle man and just play 3 songs instead?"

I think it was in 2017 or 2018 when I went to my first metal show. It was my first Band Crush Arch Enemy, and I was super hyped for them. But they had 3 support bands, of which I knew non. Two of them turnend out to be awesome, Jinjer and Wintersun.
The third band however (which I don´t remember the name of) was a bit odd. I cannot remember their style, but one of the guitarrists jumped around on the stage like a tornado the whole set, until about 20 minutes in. At that point he twisted to much, he fell over right into the drumms, and kicking down half the drummset. Forcing him to rebuild the drumset midsong, nobody caring to assit him. When he was done he finished the set not moving away from his designated position.
It was hillarious

I once filled in on guitar for a band at a college show on recording the band was sick what I didn’t realize was live the vocalist sounded like pre pubescent boy and the drummer played the wrong song EVERY time until the first chorus. After 2 songs the singer said “take a step forward let’s get intimate” obviously nobody stepped forward. I’m not standing there literally face palming on stage thinking how tf did I end up in this situation when the singer gets pissed and screams “ I SAID TAKE A F*CKING STEP FORWARD”.. people just slowly stepped forward out of fear

Here's the solution for the encore problem. Have a hit that you usually don't play live OR an early OG song OR a good cover song ready just for a true encore occasion. Otherwise, don't do it

My pet peeve is when a band does a tour of their current album and don't play every song on the album. They play maybe 4-5 from the new release and the rest older...why name the tour for the recent release if they're not gonna play all of the songs from that album??
Not that I'm complaining they're performing older songs but the fact they won't play the whole album, I came for the live new material to see how it compares to the studio :(

I remember about 10 years ago at a KISS concert Paul Stanley said “this is usually the part where we go away for a few minutes, then we come back and do a couple more songs, but we’re not doing that. We’re just gonna play more songs!” It was awesome and allowed for several more songs that would’ve been normally been put aside for the whole crowd chanting, lights going on, etc…

Second one is probably reverse psychology.

The society one is definitely Anti-Comedy. Like post irony or something,

The soundcheck one reminds me of the time i saw Nanowar of Steel (they were on the bill for the Dragonforce show i was at) where one of the guy does really bad parody death metal vocals.

I half expected the implied "maori tat guy" in Austins joke to belt out a heavy metal Judas Priest type operatic scream, guess thats part of it, bait and switch j guess..

I agree with the fake encore. Its just become part of the set list so as to not cut into to preformance time. Its not a special gesture to give fans an extra bit of fun for the night. Now if an opening act had a killer set and was alowd to come back on for a song or two, then Id be suprised.

I got one. I played guitar and we did rock covers. The singer wasn’t bad but he was so arrogant. He wanted us to do lips of an angel so damn bad. So we learned it and the first night we played it he started walking around this little club and stopped to hold this random girls hand and sang to her like he was in a boy band. The drummer and I left the band not long after. It was only going to get worse

" my mom is here. She's hot. I'd do her " .... what the actual fuck. That had to be the biggest brain fart ever. Probably while announcing his parents are there he thought " wow...that sounds lame as fuck ...what am I doing ?! gotta edge it up a bit. " proceeds do edge it up way too much " oh god no what the fuck did I just say! "

in the middle of the 3rd bands set a woman somehow related to the headlining band (semi well known punk band) takes the mic and informs the crowd the band will not be able to perform unless a stranger in the crowd can bring the singer heroin. I guess he got it because they played, but i thought it was pretty sad a seemingly professional group that had been together more than a decade didnt have the foresight to sort that shit out anytime before they were about to play and had to take some poor kids drugs from them. if your drug problem is so bad that you have to publicly beg for dope from the people that already paid to see you play there is no way this is the first time its been a problem. isnt that what your little crew is there to do. privately handle your shit in the background so you can do your job? it would not have been hard to spot the fucking junkies in the crowd and ask in a less embarrassing way hours before. I dunno. band member has a drug problem isnt the issue to me. it was the whole holding the show hostage that rubbed me the wrong way.

Went to Fallout boy when I was in High school. Cobra Starship and Paul Wall opened for them.

Paul wall is on stage, and he goes all the way to the verrrrrry edge of the stage, puts his mic out to the crowd, and screams, “HOLLA IF YOU AINT GOT STDS!!!”

Lol fucking what?

Everyone in the stadium did a collective, “huh?”

It didn’t get any better after that.
