I have a buddy from all the way back in elementary school. He went overseas as a marine, VIP convoy driver. One day, as he was getting back to a tent to debrief, somebody set a 50 cal against the wall. It fell, went off, and hit him in the abdomen. He survived, but just barely. Lost his spleen, a lot of bowel, intestine, and still has obvious health issues as a result. He’s always been tougher than a fuckin rock.

I would suggest putting targets right to the outside of the dummy to get some near misses and see what damage the shockwave of the 50 Cal does without actually having the round touch it.

Bear in mind that the torso is pinned against a stand. IRL, a torso would fall backwards and so dissipate the momentum of the round. I’m sure you’d get slightly different results if the torso was allowed to fall backwards - perhaps enough for the target to survive.

Newtons third law, the force that gun imparts on your shoulder is the same force that bullet places in its target (little less as it loses energy on its travels).

Difference is that the bulky heavy rifle absorbs and distributes the energy. On the other end, the armor absorbs and distributes the impact energy.

Kevlar doesn't distribute nearly as well as steel or ceramic, so Kevlar will leave quite the bruise. The impact from a 50 cal being stopped by the plates wouldn't kill you, but it would probably bruise you. Should watch the impact of a rifle stock on someones shoulder in slow motion, looks just as bad as a ballistic dummy getting its armor plating struck, but looks are deceiving as the shoulder is just bruised, as the chest would be from the impact.

No you could not survive not with a 50 cal the impact is so great it would kill you. A 50 BMG, has anywhere from 10,000 to 15000 foot pounds when it hits, it depends on the powder that's in it and the weapon that is fired out of. No you cannot survive.

All of that kinetic energy has to go somewhere, and ballistic armor is fairly rigid. It’ll act like a conductor and send the impact straight into your chest, likely pulverizing you internally.
