I've done this in my younger years . Enjoyed it all house included. I felt the soreness in your muscles after a long day, and the satisfaction when it was each portion was completed. Enjoy

Came up in my recommended videos! Outstanding job there! I have a yard as overgrown but lots of damn thistles. I’m not a gardener… I mow lawns, but that’s about it! LOL

What an amazing transformation! I really want to do something like that, to really work with my hands outside, but that is not possible since I live in an apartment :( maybe someday I'll have my own house with a little garden and be able to be outside and work on the garden

Great job! The council in my neighbourhood would have plotted 10/20 flats in that 50m backyard. Love what you did with the property.

I came here from your house renovation video. I am very impressed with your new garden. It is sooo beautiful! With a small river on the back - no surprise you fall in love with the garden even in its old condition.

I enjoyed you video a lot! Just a remark: the first plant you have planted is a cherry laurel. Please rethink your choice and remove it! It is of no value for our birds or insects, coz it is an imported plant, it is actually poisonous. It serves noone, not even us. The only value for gardeners is that it is an easy choice, it is cheap and it will grow anywhere. But the same goes for regional plants which are adapted to the circumstances since thousands of years. Maybe consider instead an ecological friendly bush like hazelnut, or all of our berries, like gooseberry for ex. (The kids love it). At the fence you could grow cherries or pears or apples in rows. Nowadays it is so important that we gardeners are gardening in a way to be a safe haven for endangered birds and bumblebees.

Whilst I think your efforts to clear the old overgrown plants out, digging out those roots must have been tiring and back-breaking work, I can't say I like what you've done to the garden.
However it's your garden and if it suits your needs and you enjoy the results, it doesn't matter a damn what anybody, especially some strangers on the internet, thinks about it.

For anyone planning to build raised beds, if you need to clear some trees, keep some of the trunk pieces/thick branches and chuck them into the base of the raised bed, they'll rot down, encourage insects, bacteria, and fungus' and feed the plants for years, it also cuts down the amount of soil you need.
Along the same idea, hire a chipper and chip the thin branches and twigs etc you can use them as mulch or a soil improver, cheaper and better for peat bogs than buying peat.

I lived near Whitley Bay for over 20 years and was quite surprised what you could grow in the cold climate of the North East. Granted I protected them well in the winter but I had 2 banana trees (they never produced flowers or fruit) in my garden.

I now live in Thailand and from my lounge window I see many banana trees, teak trees and things I class almost as weeds that in the UK are expensive house plants.
I struggle to think of things from the UK I miss, fig rolls and malt loaf are about it, but seeing hard frost, reminds me how much I don't miss the cold! 🥶

I think the people who commented 'negatively' have sort of forgotten that it's not their property to whinge about! Good grief! He and his missus completely restored the house, and now want the garden to work for the way they live!! Yes, it's a tree, yes, there's popular plants, but if they don't work in the space you want for your family, then it's time to remove them.

I will never understand why people choose to have a lawn in there yard. I mean, it’s unnatural, ugly looking grass that makes all the surface look flat and dead.

I would have gone with short white clover instead of wasteful normal grass. no benefit to grass, but large benefit from clover.

You came in my feed one day when I was looking at different renovations when I saw Gosforth Handy Man, I was intrigued because I grew up in Gosforth Newcastle upon Tyne I’m over here in America, so I thought there’s no way he could be from my neck of the woods but let’s go see, the moment I heard you talk I knew ,so.
