Get a chainsaw winch that can be hooked to an anchor point and will pull logs up out of a ditch. It is gasoline powered and doesn't have to be attached to the electrical system of a vehicle. It can also be used to pull stuck vehicles out. My Dad took his into the woods when he chopped down leaners and drug them back to the cabin. Living in AK, my dad lived off grid and chopped 40 cords of wood per year for hear in the cabin, cooking and sauna. He continued it for the 18 years he lived off grid into his 80's.

I your worried about polluting a stream with bar oil, I've been using corn oil in my DeWalt for years.mainly cause I use some of the wood for smoking.

One thing about fire wood, it heats you up in the summer before it'll heat you up in the winter.

Use vegetable oil it's just as good, and I know a lot of arborist that do just that.

There are bar oils that are environmentally friendly. Vegetable oil works.

You need a winch. A come along would be better than dragging them. You could mount a boat winch on a steel plate welded to a piece of square tubing that fits your receiver.

Great videos. The dry rotten wood will burn really really well as its not solid it gets dryer and more airflow when burning, great when first starting a fire but not what you want to use once the fire is up to speed.

cedar and pine is not fire wood! creosote catches fire. is NOT GOOD. I have had 2 chimney fires in my life. I am 60 and use fire wood my whole life. you might be good with that cedar. since it is so old. Here in KY we use it for fence post. good for 25 years

I believe Cedar is a soft coniferous wood. Typically not used for firewood as it is a quick flashier burn emitting lower BTUs. Try to stick to hard wood. Cherry, maple, ash, iron wood as examples. Good luck. Fire wood is great exercise. I did it for eleven years when we lived in upstate NY near Lake Ontario.

I hadn't even thought of oil contaminating a waterway. If you ever wanted to go back there you could use vegetable oil instead of bar and chain oil. A friend mentioned they do that when cutting up big moose at his butcher shop. might be worth a try.

Hey Diego, when chopping wood right before your axe or maul hits the wood lean it to the side slightly and it will make it split better.

Diego you can walk to your wood pile while they're laying on the ground and swept through them with your maul or your double-headed axe that way you don't have to handle them so much

It's always great to watch a much younger person I'm 77 years with the get up and go, to do so much on their own for themselves and others. Your elder neighbour surely appreciates your efforts. A comment from Nova Scotia , Canada on the Atlantic ocean , just south of Newfoundland/.Labradour, where in my province we have access to the ocean 35 miles from where you may be in any direction.
