Best Churchill by a stretch. How this guy never won an Oscar is unbelievable ! When he played Scrooge in 1970 he was only 34 years of age, but effortlessly pulled off the main portrayal of Ebenezer. He played the old miser perfectly and yet was so convincing as the changed Scrooge at the end of the film. A truly great actor.

Great acting, great performance to such an important time in England's great history.

One of Albert Finney's masterful performances, among his very many. Love this movie, great cast and brilliant acting. A sublime

I still am surprised at the way Gary Oldham 'became' Churchill in Darkest Hour, but Finney is great, too. As a Christian, I believe Churchill was another 'broken pot' used by the Lord (like Moses) and I don't think he was in place to lead England to victory by chance. Same with Eisenhower, a man with no experience leading soldiers, able to deal with massive egos and the incredible logistics of D-Day. Churchill has to be the highest functioning Alcoholic of all time, but look what he did. :)

Simply brill.There have been some excellent performances of Churchill but Mr Finney is just so natural in this film. Simply brill.

Brilliant production. Also well worth watching The Wilderness Years 8 parts with Robert Hardy also on yt..for the detailed political background.

Man HBO made a TON of World War II movies around this time. You got this movie, Conspiracy, When Trumpets Fade, Nuremberg, and a bunch more.

A never to be topped Churchill movie and performance by Albert Finney and Co.

Of course woman were not supposed to earn anything then .They still dont , but lets pretend.

I love that we get both sides of Churchill. We get the famed great orator and statesmen, but we also get the private man. The man of moods, the man plagued by the black dog, the husband and father. Finney played him as a person, not a monument, and it's a joy to watch.

I wanted this movie to continue; never to end. Thank you, Mr. Finney. You are a wonderful actor; you are Mr. Churchill. Rest in peace, Forever in our hearts.

Winston Churchill was a man with a huge ego but with an equally great sense of humour which made him entirely tolerable, even lovable. The fact that he could smell what sort of creature Hitler really was when no one else could or would makes him extraordinary. Finney captures all this to perfection!

By far the greatest portrayal of Churchill, and one of my favourite films. Makes The Darkest Hour look positively second rate.

Heroic Churchill of all time

This was a really good one too. Winnie was a real patriot, courteous a true fighter. And the best PM OF Britain. Winston had always been my favorite secular hero. An American fan.

Abet Finney played both ; Churchill here, and also Hercule Poirot in Murder on The Orient Express. Both times; Exceptional acting. JMO

I have watched this many many times classics Finney without doubt the best Churchill I have ever seen. Outstanding supporting cast and cinema photography.

Lovely Movie. Churchill was my late husband's hero and I think he resembled him in character and even in looks. This movie warmed my heart and made me smile and tear up.

Finney's Churchill is sensational, but there's not a step out of place from the entire cast. Ronnie Barker as Inches is incredibly good, Venessa Redgrave is outstanding - the whole cast is fantastic.

A fantastic Film with some great actors. My particular interest in this film was to find out more about Ralph Follett Wigram, who was the original owner of a beautiful country house in Seaford, which my son recently purchased. I have uncovered many records and much information about Ralph and believe that he may have died at this house (as it is listed) on his death certificate.
