Very interesting. Was it the viscera/remains discovery that first piqued your curiosity to investigate? Your sleuthing very much aligns with the cat kill discoveries I've made on our property - find something, then go looking. I did manage to get one on camera dragging a Doe to where is was mostly consumed. I was amazed how quickly a cougar can eat most of a deer and how the coyotes clean up the mess.

We had mtn. lion(s) take a couple of deer, found the remains pretty close to the house, took pics for proof -- once, even got an "action" shot, (dust, a tail and leg, moving quickly) on trail cam.
I've been out working in our woods and had all the birds go quiet, even felt the hairs on the back of my neck get prickly, but never, ever felt afraid of being attacked. Felt like something was sizing me up and figuring I wasn't worth the bother. I called out that I knew it was watching me and it should move along; after a couple of minutes, the birds started up again and that was that. No muss, no fuss. No need for a firearm. But that's just me, you're in a much wilder area than we are.
Another "likeroo." Excellent use of the Monty Python "huge teeth and great long claws..." reference; and thanks for the rest of the story.
Cheers from Linn County; Good Day.

Thanks for this posting. I appreciate your light hearted, practical commentary. Where I grew up in East Multnomah County if it wasn't a river it was a crick. However, in describing a small stream near Estacada we always call it Eagle Creek.

The cycle of life is fascinating. I can imagine how nutrient-rich the soil in areas where a kill has been made and/or consumed. Interesting video. Thank you for sharing @Wilson Forest Lands. Lovely little doe at the end! :)

Similar situation happened to me. Found a deer carcass 50 yards behind our home. It was picked CLEAN and all in one piece with no intestines nearby. We live secluded and have 3 large dogs for early warning and protection from the cougars and bear. None of our dogs sounded off or made a fuss and I’d bet the carcass had been there for at least two days. How many times do you think that cougar came back to snack? It’s scary how stealthy these large predators are. Once I found the carcass and showed it to the dogs they carried its bones around for weeks!! They aren’t earning their keep.

It be aggravating to record yourself walking down the hill, then have to go back and get the camera to record different views… respect for putting together a story for us

I love people who say poor deer. Didn’t deserve that. But it’s ok for the lion or bear to starve to death?? Nature is a wonderful thing.

All cougars can be dangerous. I was approached by 2 at the local bar. just when I thought I was sure I would be a victim a couple of younger men came in and I took that opportunity to escape..

Haven’t seen a coyote for a while? They’re one of the stealthiest animals on earth. You may not have seen them, but you can bet they’ve seen / smelled (no offense intended) you.
