Why Android Tablets Failed

I'm a firefighter/paramedic and about 5 years ago my department bought Samsung tablets for us to use for our EMS reports and they're absolute trash. I tried using them once or twice and swore them off forever and just use the laptop we normally use.

I owned all of the Nexus tablets. Except for the 9 they all performed very well with daily use. My Nexus 10 in particular lasted from launch day until July 2023.

Work gave me a Samsung tablet to use and it's total garbage. Slow, full of Samsungs bloatware (and TMobiles), and the battery life is awful.

I finally gave in and purchased an iPad mini this week. Apple is really the only game in town now for a solid tablet, which is unfortunate.

My first tablet was a Nexus 7, and I loved it. The app optimisation thing was less of an issue because the screen was 7 inches, similar to Samsung phablets of the time at 5.5 or 6 inches, so apps just being stretched was less noticeable because they were either already optimised or only stretched a little bit. I didn't notice any bugs, but I did notice hardware degradation owing to it's cheapness. Years later, using an iPad for the first time, I found the experience laughable. Many of the apps were decent, but in 2020 it is unacceptable that some apps still do that stupid thing where they open at iPhone resolutions and provide a button to make it zoom in slightly. Just stretch the app! You even killed your pretty UI so stretching everything should be piss-easy now that it's all two colour vector graphics.

Similar story with MP3 players, my first being a Creative Zen Stone, when I first used an iPod I tried pressing the buttons to move through the menus and ended up playing and pausing the music repeatedly. The person who was showing me said "no, you do this" snatched it off me and demonstrated the jog wheel so fast that I didn't know what they did until years later when I saw someone demoing the app Bluedot and they said "you could do this like old iPods".

I like iThings, but to this day I still don't understand why their foibles are seen as better. I'm used to the way my tech works, yours isn't inherently better just because you're used to the way your tech works. There are some things from iOS that I'd like to see in Android (I really like four and five finger multitasking gestures, for example), there are some things in Android that I'd like to see in iOS (making phone apps actually fit the screen, the ability to download apps and have them open by default instead of system defaults, e.g. SMS apps, phone dialer, email client, home app, etc.)

Is this USA centric or world wide?

This video is very much outdated. As 4 years in tech is a very big time gap. I own a samsung S8+, and jave used ipad before that. I'll say there is not much of diffrence left in those two. Also Lenovo, oneplus and xiaomi have started making tablets. Apps are being made Android tablet compatable. I use samsung ecosystem, so samsung tab is the best choice for me.

Because Android OEMs treat tablets as second class citizens when it comes to hardware, software and updates compared to their smartphones.

Compare that to iPads which get the same if not more powerful SoCs, the same update time as iPhones and better software and Apps.

they didnt fail, what failed is android. many good apps are available on ipad and not android. i used Samsung Tablets before, while Dex is good, unfortunately android don have some of the apps in Ipad that i need or want

After using ipad 2, I swore that I will never ever buy another IOS device. It is a SHT OS !
No single user file system.
No support for MicroSD card.
Pseudo multitasking !

as somewone who owned a samsung tablet for a very long time, it feels like I have the sun in my hands every time I have used it, literally tooking as long as 8 minutes for loading and the screen was so hot that It could fry an egg on it

What about Windows tablrts as Microsoft has made alot of improvements to Windows on a tablets with an arm version already in the works and has great touch and stylus support ever since Windows 8.

They're not dead my sister has an Android tablet and everyone I met atleast had an Android tabled in the last 3-4 years

For almost 2 years I became an iPhone user, but still bought an 100 dollar android phone for a DPF app. 70% of phones around the world are androids, because you can buy one for 100 bucks. 😂

In Android Tablets, I believe Samsung is the only one in market that have ipad tier quality
I had galaxy tab 2 back in 2014 , games and as well as Samsung 1st part app we're optimized but not Google apps despise chrome

Then in 2021 my phone died ( galaxy note 4 ) and since I was going to college I thought its a good idea to have a Tablet than can phone call.
Between surface pro 7 , iPad air m1 , Tab S7+ , I bought S7 for that reason.

Nowadays Android is backed for large displays with Android L.
apps work great despite Instagram.

Later I test an ipad demo to compare it with mine and they are equally backed enough to call them even.
But don't go wrong cheap Android tablets are still sucks that run Android ( L less 😂 )

I had a galaxy tab 2019

I love my galaxy note tablet, have it for years... only recently apple introduced a stylus in his devices, but I still don't see a good reason to switch...

When I was a kid, I had an Amazon tablet and it was HORRIBLE! I only used the tablet for Roblox and it was laggy! The iOS system is way better than the Android tablets.

I prefer iPads since Apple supports them for so long.

In 2012, I got a lenovo tablet. In 2014 it stopped working due to a software issue.

In 2015 i bought the iPad mini 2, and used it until 2021 when it fell down stairs and broke it entirely. It still switches on but is unusable.

In 2022, I bought an iPad 6 and it still works to this day.

i had a tab a8 but it was laggy and overall a bad tablet but when i got my ipad it was not laggy or anything

samsung tablets are way better now in 2023/2024 and Samsung sells tablets that can be iPad killers
