Integration Between Dynamics 365 for Sales and Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations via CDS

Which system is seen as the system of record for the Customer and Item. Is it the sales system for customer, and Finance and Ops for Items? Looks like I could create a customer in either system. Would the sync check for duplicate records

in integrating between sales and FO, do they need to have on the same domain tenant?
