Back in the day Beaver County in Pennsylvania was the wealthiest county at least in Pennsylvania. Nearly every man worked in the steel mill industry. Everyone had a home, multiple cars, a boat and a hunting cabin in the mountains. Then the steel mills shuttered the doors. My neighbor was an executive in the mills. During a closed door meeting he was told that the mills in Asia were running at full capacity and they were ready to pull the plug on the American mills. And they did. Poverty ensued this county and trickled down the line.

They're right about Africa because it HAS screwed shoe manufacturers there when charities flood the place with sneakers for free. HOWEVER "give them food" isn't REALLY the answer. They ALREADY have a large supply of terrible tasting stuff provided by the UN, but IMPORTED tinned food from the EU, subsidised by EU farming grants is ALREADY screwing the local farmers. In many cases they can't sell fresh food to even COVER the pesticide cost because you can get EU tinned food CHEAPER with a 2 year expiry date.

GM and Ford wasn't trying to make more money. The unions pushed labor costs too high, Chrysler actuality went bankrupt, it became a necessity. There is a such thing as pushing labor costs too high.

All corporate companies care about are pinching pennies to show growth to investors every fiscal year. If they make 100 billion this year they wanna make 101 next year and they'll cut it from labor or bonuses down below or in the manufacturing of a product. It doesn't matter where they'll get their profits. Then it just sits in the bank and gets hoarded never to trickle down in the economy. They also shouldn't be getting massive tax breaks when they're not even providing jobs in America.

William-Sonoma products are almost all made in China. They tell you online in the product details. The "luxury kitchen items" framing is a lie and just branding. It's an eye opener how many brands use cheap overseas labor and then try to sell the product as a luxury item.
