god i come back and watch this every time i remember it exists and i never get tired of it. it’s so well done and the lovable characters just pull you in. while you can of course read between the lines with context clues like the title, the green sky, and bobs potential whereabouts after his transmission with jimbo, i still would LOVEEE for them to make a prequel or a sequel to this! even though it’s a few years old it still holds up tremendously and i know a sequel/prequel would do PHENOMENAL! but, at the same time i appreciate it for what it is, and it is a fantastically executed short story regardless. incredible

I had seen the beginnings of CGI at Ontario Place many years ago. Very basic, poor lighting, detail and shadows. This short is incredible, not only because of the CGI. The direction is superb along with scoring, acting and writing. Very engaging. No sequel necessary. The title gives you your first clue, the humanity of some of the devices, in the absence of real humanity tells the story. I have empathy for Jimbo, his sense of loss of humans, friends, and purpose
is palpable. One can imagine that Bob set out toward Jimbo. Given the distance and reserve power that would be the only way for them to meet one last time, however brief. Bravo!

Brian Watson has a quarry to develop a New Story. It could take place in the 225-mile journey that Jimbo must travel to meet his friend Bob. Let's not forget that great stories of world literature develop in the midst of travel....!!!!

Theory: Since GoGoGas is clearly still operational (able to send replacement for Bob) Jimbo's station was removed from the power grid purposefully since he was malignant, maybe same with Bob as well.

Kind of sucks! I was really getting into the story.

Humanity is gone. The green sky refers to the big bomb. 47 days prior was when the bomb was dropped. Poor Jimbo kept asking ADA if there were any humans in the vicinity. Without power from the grid all the electronics “died” as well. 😔

On a ominous note, this scenario is probably much closer to reality than when it was created. Incredible, how just a few warmongers are moving the entire planet into this end of mankind!

Poor Jimbo! Feel so sorry for him. Tough situation to be in. I hope he finds a new power source. And I hope he is able to reach his friend Bob. I wonder what happened to all of the humans? I'm guessing there's a nuclear winter. But some may have survived by goi underground... 🤔

Hello, below is my film theory of this short film. DISCLAIMER: This is entirely my personal opinion and everything here is a mere educated guess. Feel free to comment your ideas c:

Why is everything so quiet? Based on the green sky, the title "Big Boom", and the sudden disappearance of humans, I think that humanity may have suffered a nuclear war in which radiation wiped out almost all life. Since Jimbo lives in the middle of nowhere, he was not directly affected by the apocalypse and therefore had no idea what happened. Alas as the world crumbled, human infrastructure crumbled (hence why Jimbo's station was cut off from electricity as power plants ran out of fuel).

Where is Bob? Well, I think that Bob had also tried to escape and actually succeeded in driving away. However, he likely ran out of power in transit. When Bob never came back, Chuzz came to investigate. More about Chuzz is below.

Who is Chuzz and what is he doing here? My best guess is that Chuzz is probably just a police bot who investigates rogue/missing robot cases. I assume that when the "return to post" speaker goes off for a long period of time, it sends a report to a police robot. This would also explain why he knew about Jimbo and why a police robot wasn't sent to Jimbo's gas station. After all, Jimbo came back after only a few seconds.

Is Chuzz with some sort of secret splinter group? No. Due to Chuzz's lack of information, I also think he is running on reserve power. The only thing he knows is that he must continue to serve his purpose until the end.

I hope there can be a sequel.

You need to do a follow on to this one. Great short.

It just occurred to me after watching this a few times that it seems to be somewhat of an anachronism that this should be a gas station.
With such advanced technology it should be a charging station. I realize however that the aesthetic of a gas station suits the concept better.
