Golden rule. Do not conflate symptom with cause.

It would be useful if you let us know what part of the country you are in and what the average age of the furnaces/type you are dealing with.

This is very helpful! When you got to the part about the clogged humidifier filter, I looked at mine and it was really dirty and crusty stuff in the plastic holes. I cleaned it up good and ordered a new filter set.

Truly appreciate your concise, instructive, knowledgeable explanations, backed by your actual experience. A "cleaning lady," messed up my thermostat and tripped two sensors. And she tried to put it back together, causing more problems. I followed your video's, as well as watching dozens of others. Yours are outstanding and get right to the point, and don't waste precious time. Thank you. Called a friend after I spent hours attempting to repair. Turned out the "high limit switch", was also bad, and we replaced it. After re-setting the others. Thanks for your exceptional video!

Excellent video and now I have a clear understanding of how the gas furnace works. My daughter's gas furnace recently started cutting off before reaching set point and is random . I followed all of your tips cleaning exhaust piping, inspected A Coil which looked like new, inspected sensors and the unit runs through the start up sequence as you have outlined. Once the burners are on and the fan blower is working, it will run and heat 5 minutes or more then just cut off. Only thing I can imagine is the limit switch is starting to fail. It is a Keep Rite unit (which I've never heard of) and will another brand limit switch work if I change it. Love your videos and tips, Thanks, Russ.

Furnace quit working. Called Cinch, our home warranty. Four days later a repairman came out, after I paid a $120 fee. He looked at a few things, took about a dozen pictures of different things and left. He said he had to get it approved by Cinch. Of course they denied the claim. It was getting down around 0 to 10 degrees at night. I was panicking (and majorly pissed off). I felt like the repairman was there to find something so Cinch could deny the claim. A few days later I watched one of this guy's videos and tried one of his suggestions concerning a heat lockout. It took literally five minutes and runs fine!! He saved me a ton of money and stress, not to mention my wife thinks I'm the smartest guy around!

What if its making a loud humming noise but the heat works. It wasn’t heating at all last month. A technician came out and cleaned the flame sensor. The filter was filthy. Not changed in 7 years. I replaced it. Now it works but its very loud even when the heat is turned off.

I don't usually comment, but your video save me a call to a technician, probably 300 dollars just show up and clean the sensor. My AC and heating guy is a fair, so I can guess he would just charge to show up. I can't imagine someone else and probably trying to charge more. What's more important, being able to fix my furnace tonight brought comfort to my family on one of the colder nights so far on this winter.

I have a plugged condensate trap on my Carrier. Its -30 and very late so I bypassed the whole trap and put a foot of garden hose to the floor drain. I see 2 other tubes and hear the sound of water. Its working now and hope the rest can wait till tomorrow. Its quite time consuming to take the trap out . I hope I dont regret going back to sleep

My furnace has problems turning on after it gets cold. i've changed out the pressure switch, the ignitor, the flame sensor, and the limit switch. Nothing seems to help. the light blinks continually when the problem exists. The furnace repair guy says there is nothing wrong because when he comes, it is working. I have to start and stop it a couple of times, then it works all day... until the next morning. Please give me a clue. The furnace people want to charge me 400 dollars on every little thing they change out.

My parents had a Lennox Pulse furnace in the early 1980's. My Dad was talking to his buddy & he mentioned about the problems with the Lennox Pulse. My Mom was home. Well my Dad came home & called the fire department & they said they needed to evacuate due to high levels of carbon monoxide levels in the house. It did have a cracked heat exchange. It was a God send that my Dad ran into his friend that mentioned that. My Dad was in HVAC before he became a pipefitter. Needless to say, they got a new furnace right away.

"Dirty Flame Sensor" is the diagnosed problem. What you need to track (along with the 'fix,') is the reported problem. That is what did you customer say was the reason he/she decided to call in a repairman. Essentially going from the customer's issue to the technician's solution.

As an aside, you might want to look into service call software in your industry/line of work I suspect you could incorporate and record lots more data much more efficiently with the appropriate software. If you were a tech for a large enough company, I suspect that they collected all the date you did along with equipment (make, model, SN) serviced, parts replaced, charges to customer, payment to the tech, and so on and so forth.

I share this because MY ISSUE is an aroma of fuel oil or exhaust in the basement, every time I run the Beckett oil furnace. I've had techs suggest I need to replace the entire thing; that I've got a cracked heat exchanger, that I need to replace the Honeywell 1051 controller (for $450), and so on and so forth.

Since you promised to list the top ten furnace 'problems,' I had high hopes until you went right to the top and told us what you repaired without telling us what the (reported) problem was.

Great Video! thank you so much. Wish you worked for me up here in Canada. My issue is error code E112 no ground detected, there is rust all over my Lennox HE unit, looks like it started from above, where the PVC pipe is just entering the console. any thoughts on how to repair. wires look fine, ground "looks" fine as well. It powers on, but then a few seconds will stop and show the E112

Had a board go bad one time. Furnace came on, then I heard a distinct “snap” and noting. Called the service guy that installed the furnace, asked him to bring a new control board, only 3 mth old. After several attempt to start the furnace, discovered they sent him the wrong board for that model. None in shop, had to ship one overnight. Finally got heat, for 2 days, in November. Threw that piece of junk out and replaced it with a better unit that met the need. Five years now, I’m happy😊
