You have no idea how many bags a ramp agent handles.

If you can’t handle the job , go wash the bathroom or push carts. That’s crazy

The ramp agent in this video didn’t (throw) any bags. I’m a ramper my self and we don’t have time to neatly stack and take our time loading and off loading so I get what it’s like as a ramp agent cause it’s no easy task. People just love to blame us. The best part of this job is that you almost never have to interact with the public which is amazing.

Not a single bag was “thrown” in that video.
If you want to take valuable/fragile items on your flight, carry them as hand luggage.
If you don’t want your baggage damaged buy decent cases and don’t fill them to bursting at the absolute
limit of your weight allowance.
If you struggle to close the zip on your suitcase then it increases the chance that zip will fail.
If you make your case so heavy that it cannot be handled by sliding or rolling along an aircraft’s hold then it is more likely to be to be treated harshly simply in an effort to move it.

Loading and unloading over 600 bags everyday and even more sometimes is not an easy task. People only see the one guy throwing the bag but they don't realize that he is not doing that flight but other flights as well. I worked at baggage hall which basically is the area where bags are loaded to go to each airplane and unloaded when flights come in so their owners can get them. You have to finish on time, plus there are many different sizes, shapes and weight of bags (some come with nylon all over them which makes it harder to put on top of each other) , plus you have to hold in your hand a barcode scanner so that you can scan each bag's label and at the same time get the bad and put it on the container. You also have to make sure that the bags are put perfectly so they won't fall. And add the other flights each man has to complete. This makes no room for mistakes and no room to think and put the bag slowly and softly. And the most important part is not only to get the job done in the time period you are given, but to not get injured while doing so. The way most if not all bag handlers work is basically to get as little weight on you as possible of the bag you're gonna move. So the best way is to just throw them in order to earn time and reduce the possibility of you getting injured. Also if there are damages on someone's item most likely the company will pay for it from insurance. They can't tell their workers to treat bags softly and gentle cause first the workers aren't getting paid much, second, time to finish is money and third, they can't risk their workers to get injured and lose time and money. And am telling you, these people aren't shitty workers. It's because of these people working hard that you and all of us are able to go journeys in other countries. And not only because of them, because of all the small and unnoticed little jobs people are unaware of in the airport that they can do it safely and fast. Airport is like a small community of people doing different tasks, others small, others bigger in order to work properly, safely and fast and provide the best service possible for the people who come to fly.

This is quite concerning to me, and although I know that it mustn't be an easy job to lift those heavy luggage bags off and on the plane, I was planning to bring my large 203x1000mm telescope on the plane. The mirror at the back, and all the tiny, delicate piece of metal and glass are super fragile and can be easily damaged from heat, cold, shock, etc. This makes me doubtful...

It’s already heavy enough to carry my empty luggage up and down the stairs, I cannot imagine the repetitive weight they have to carry. They throw it cos it’s heavy and for the sake of time, then in that case the airport should create a solution…

He’s not “throwing” the bags🙄
Unless you’re a ramp agent or work in an airport you’ll never understand.

I use to think same about ramp Agent throwing bags. Until I became a Ramp Agent myself. After that I completely understood that it’s no easy task to load and unload these bags on and off the airplane. Especially when you are on a extremely tight schedule only having 10 minutes to unload & load from the airplane cargo bin and load all the passengers on board the airplane and push out . I have a lot of respect for all my Ramp Agents out there it’s not an easy job but to me love it because I get to be around airplanes all day watching them land and take off. I love the world of AVIATION that is my main reason for even applying as a Ramp Agent.

People also need to understand that us Ramp Agent only have 10 minutes to load and unload so many bag from the aircraft . And most of these passengers pack a lot of heavy stuff like they are carrying their own home. I just wish more people would have four wheel luggage then maybe their bags wouldn’t be Toss around so much.
