Another big issue with 40k economy is that many menial workers are unpaid. They sleep in barracks, food is rationed to them, and equipment is dispensed based on availability. The workers themselves labor because the alternative is execution by a taskmaster.

It would be cool to have a short story series of a ministorum scribe tasked with planotolgy and tithe review. Going to uncategorized planets and analyzing or verifying a planetary classification and tithe inspection. Would be a really interesting to see the ministorum side of the imperium. To see a white collar exhausted glorified claims and tax collection worker dragging himself from planet to planet. Wrinkled ink & recaf stained adeptus uniform, bleary-eyed and weary, the worker has been dealing with a variety of politicians and governors and admech liaisons, their obvious (and not so obvious) lies and coverups.

Hive cities are 32,000ish of the "million worlds" in the imperium. A majority of worlds are normal and naive to many of the grimdark aspects of 40k.

in terms of currency, I think Gold would relatively be not that valuable like of course on Earth today Gold is very valuable and somewhat sparse but in the wider galaxy just go to any random asteroid field and it would just be filled with more gold than the entire gold stockpile in earth today

I love your videos but dude you kind of ramble a little bit and get off topic You're supposed to be talking about Hive cities and you are basically giving a general background on Warhammer 40K universe in every video for the first like 5 minutes we get it. This is the kind of thing that I wandered into while I was looking for a hair braiding video like we're already interested in the the background of this game system we know that there's warp travel we know that there's aliens and demons like come on get to the chase

The whole idea of the scrips being the main way hive denizens are paid reminds me a lot of the extremely controlled currencies of the former Eastern Bloc. Essentially, the governments there strictly controlled access to foreign currency, paid their people in the local currency which was only usable of course in their country and worthless abroad, and because the state controlled so much of the economy, prices for goods and services were tightly controlled.

If the economies in this type of hive cities used a similar system for their currency, I suspect there’d be a robust black market, both in goods stolen from production (stealing from one’s job in the Communist world was omnipresent) and in more readily exchangeable currency.

If you have energy sources to move space ships and titans, you have enough energy for every normal planetary activity including production easily. Also most would be automated and no need for billions of people. In a world like 40k you would do birth control
