FF14 - 2024 Complete Beginner's Guide! (Final Fantasy 14)

I have been playing XIV on and off since 1.0 launch and watching this video has reminded me of how much I still have left to do in this game.

Also, for me at least, doing a dungeon with NPC's first is a great way to get to know the dungeon a bit. My main is a WM, so often I was running behind the rest watching health bars, doing my thing running after a tank that's pulling several mobs and not really knowing what the dungeon is all about.
So when possible I at least like to play a new dungeon with NPC's, so I can take my time to look arround and be the person to click all the things.

I just started playing the game last week, and a friend sent me this guide. fantastic work! great to have a resource like this! if id to suggest an improvement for next time you do this, if you do it again, or maybe a separate video? you mention controller having some great support, why not dive into that, especially with the Xbox release coming up soon! once again, Great video

thanks for the guide, I just started a few weeks ago and luckily I have my son with 1000's of hours in this game assisting and guiding me thru this but this guide has helped a lot with some stuff he hasn't went over yet.

24h ago I resubed to FFXIV after a year. Logged in, I was lost. Then this video pops in my recomendations. I couldn't ask for better timing lol.

I have started and dropped a few times since PS3 and just resubbed last week
Duty Support is a literal game changer.. dungeons were always confusing and frustrating being dragged behind speedrunners
Now I get the story, learn the mechanics and get sweet loot!

There is basically one set of Macros that nearly EVERY player should have, and that is for the expandable hotbars!

You can change the visibility of a hotbar via macro, and you can copy the content of any hotbar to any other hotbar. That allows you to have dynamically "expanding" hotbars by having just one button which "expands" your hotbar (which actually just makes the second hotbar visible) and those then can have various macros that will make visible and fill a third hotbar which contains all the things you actually need/want.

That way, you can keep your interface much cleaner by shoving everything you don't actually need constantly (or in a short timeframe, like all your abilities and such which you want on your main hotbars) away but still easily accessible.

For example, I have a button for all my Crafter/Gatherer Jobs, one for all Tanks, one for all DPS, one for all healers, then another Hotbar for the Chocobo Companian and then another for useful functions (like desynthesize, repair) and/or macros (like a customized sorting macro for the armoury inventory). And all of that hidden behind a single button, only to be expanded when I actually need it and click on it.
And all of that with just 3 hotbars (instead of the 7+ hotbars that I would normally need to get all that stuff, and I still have more than enough slots on my second hotbar there to add more categories, like emotes and such).

So yeah, Macros are definitely something that can be very useful for everybody, no matter what or how you play.

one thing to add when choosing a race: Hrothgar & Viera are unable to have certain headgear appear when equipped. They'll get the stats from it, but visually they wont have it on

A note about what you said about unlocking jobs - you cannot change from your first job until you complete the Level 10 job quest, as that unlocks the armoury and gives you permission to join other guilds. You mentioned ninja, but rogue, the class you need to unlock to get this, is only available by unlocking the armoury. This is because they hadn't finished tuning rogue before the game released so they couldn't include it with that other eight classes.

IF you cant get a dungeon pop as a dps, don't hunting logs are definitely very helpful. always do them with your alt instead of waiting for a dungeon to pop

One thing to clarify; Road to 80 isn't explicitly 90 days, it's 90 days OR however long that world keeps preferred status, whichever is longer. I started on Dynamis a year ago and still have road to 80

Being able to use every class and job on one character is one of the greatest conveiences this game has. And I'm glad for it because I'm not doing the MSQ 20 times.

I swear, it must've been a PS3 player with their UI scale set to 3x who coined them "blue" quests, because the 3 pixels of visible blue on the icon are drastically less distinctive than the GIANT PLUS SIGN.

I have tried the game briefly and both PC and (when I had it) PS. Since I mainly play on Xbox again these days (there is just something about, when finishing a long shift at work, just being able to collapse on your sofa and grab a controller and play), I’m definitely going to give FF another try when it releases for Xbox later this year.

Having Old School RuneScape and Elder Scrolls Online as the only other 2 MMO’s I’ve played, it is definitely a large learning curve to try and get to grips with the game, but the lack of having items you can only get through crates (I’m looking at you ESO) and the (apparently) incredible story that the game has, I’m desperate to finally be able to get into the game, especially with other games stagnating quite a bit in recent years

I wanted to clear one thing up regarding fates, if you don’t level sync it’s not just you don’t get credit but also you can’t even attack the mobs. Great guide!!!!

This is perfect timing! I literally just downloaded and started playing this yesterday.

I have hundreds of hours on the FFXIV free trial and will put in a few hundred more before I buy it (I've finished ARR but haven't started Heavensward). That being said I can't wait to watch all of this video while playing some more FFXIV.
