Yakuza Like A Dragon | A Complete History and Retrospective

Personally I will always prefer the Japanese over the English dub ☺️ That said the dub is not so bad either. I really like Ichiban as a main character.

We miss kiryu but ichi is definitely a worthwile replacement he is the exact opposite of kiryu hence the opposite suit colours he leans into the whacky yakuza stuff and he is definitely the 4th best playable character ever

I believe the restrictions on the skills are not boss fight related but enemy related. Some attacks cannot be used on non-humans.

Two things that I don't think were brought up in your video:
1: When you unlock the management minigame, you can unlock Eri fairly early on, and since you unlock it before Nanba leaves the party for a bit, you can have her fill in the last party slot so you can have a full party until he comes back, which is a major help going into the boss battles before you get Joon
2: I'm not sure if you noticed, but the guy who introduces Sujimons, the professor dude, sounds very similar to the voice actor for evil congressman from Persona 5 (Can't remember his name, been a while since I last played). Just thought it would be a good thing to point out given some of the Persona 5 references in the game.

Ichiban Kasuga reminds me of the scarface movie...because it's about an ordinary man who joined the Yakuza at the lowest rank and went on to becoming the top dog in all of Yokohama,Japan.He defeated the best of Yakuza Clans,rose through the business ranks made some friends and enemies along the way while getting betrayed but kept going.i really feel for this character.

Worth noting that you never have to be down a party member if you grab Emi before chapter 7. Also frees up Saeko to get a job other than idol

Why did you have to spoil the whole story?

Ichiban was a breath of fresh air for the series. His optimism is contagious.

Eri is the god of death in this game! she's so powerful if you give her the right skills! not to mention she has so many AOE attacks, not as much as Nanban but definitely way cheaper than his skills.

I first experienced the yakuza games in a pc so load times have never really been an issue. In a way I feel like that probably took the magic of dragon engine out of me. For a console Yakuza fan being able to walk into a building without a load time probably felt amazing but for me the load time was never really a big deal to begin with

I absolutely love the fact that Ichiban enters a political race. It makes sense that he would be loved by the public because he literally wins over the entire city by doing all the sub stories and being the wholesome boy he is.

When the English speaking guy was asking Ichiban how to get to the train station, I was instantly thinking of Monty Python's take on the Hungarian to English phrase book.
"I will not buy this record, it is scratched."

As a fan of Skies of Arcadia and recently been playing the old Phantasy Star JRPG series on the SEGA Ultimate Megadrive/Genesis collections that were released back in the XBox360/PS3 era.
I can say that Yakuza might have revived a long lost JRPG form in this series.
Hope to see SEGA try the JRPG again or even bring back Phantasy Star/Skies of Arcadia but at least with Yakuza Like a Dragon they have revived a genre within their development teams that they used to be so good in.

There may never be another Earthbound/Mother game from Nintendo, so lets all be thankful for SEGA's Yakuza's series for taking Like a Dragon into a Dragon Quest inspired JRPG with a few other nods to other JRPGs.
Final Fantasy's Summons becoming Like a Dragon's PUND BUDDIES was genius.

I had completed the management minigsme to 100% before nanba even left the party. Having the rxtra character, and all the cash in chaoter 12, really altered those psrticular experiences
