I was hoping to hear some harmonics. I love doing dime and zakk Wyld style squeals. They come out so well with EMGs but I'm curious about these fishmans. The harmonics are super important to me though.

I own both. The main difference is the Fishman fluence modern is brighter and hotter than the EMG 81

I've been looking at Fishmans for a while, this was very informative thank you!

The big benefit of the Fishmans is that you can get the Active sound and the Single Coil Passive sound from the same pickup. It’s like having two sets of pickups on one guitar. If you think about it that way, the price starts to justify itself.

This is no comparision between EMG and Fishhman but between Jackson and Ibanez. Very inaccurate.

C'est marrant, toutes les fois ou j'ai entendu les fishman en vidéo, ils sonnent bien. Et les deux fois où j'en ai essayé en magasin, le son était abominable alors que j'ai joué sur mon ampli habituel ! ^^ Ceci dit, je rejoins Harlon David : la différence avec l'EMG 81 ne vaut pas 250 balles.

Fishman sound less compressed. Emg is ass.

If you had money only for a single guitar, which one you would had preferred out of the 2.... EMG equiped or FISHMAN equiped guitar.....

The EMGs have a bite and crunch that isn't really present on the Fishmans. As for the claimed clarity difference I've heard what I assume are EMGs played clean and they sound great - I assume the difference in tone can be easily dialed in on any amp setup and the cost premium of the Fishman isn't really worth it unless you're getting them stock on a new guitar.

I have both pickups. Fishman sounds more organic, but I prefer the attack of the EMG, and the big difference is that battery life with EMG has 4x the battery life, and 9 volts are very expensive right now. EMG saves you time and money...and it's a legendary sound.

Ive used emgs for years and decided to go with fishman fluence on my latest project because its a 7, and EMG just doesnt have any offerings for single coil voicing beyond 707tw/707xtw and I prefer the tonal range of the 81, the same range the ceramic moderns are in.

Overall they're fairly close. Different, but definitely ballpark. EMGs are cheaper and the compressed, slightly scooped wall of sound thing is the sound of an era. Anyone into 2000s metal tones from Slipknot, Zakk Wylde and everyone else knows the sound and it's beloved. It's got that slight fizz, fuzzed, bees whatever you wanna call it quality around the sound that's quite pleasing. Fishmans are less compressed, more dynamic, closer to the response of a passive pickup, slightly shifted midrange, but otherwise doing the same kind of job. The three voices thing is cool and a big value add if you are going to use them. For a metal guitarist just wanting a metal guitar with chugging tones that's often less of a consideration. Of course like every other metal guitar comes equipped with Fishmans these days anyway.

The difference between these 2 pickups definitely isn't worth 250 bucks! I'll keep my 81. Thanx for the comparison 🤘
