The only issue is the handle. The bottom is a bit too small and it works its way free. Only wish they would thicken it slightly. Then it would be perfect

Since you don't need that Small Forest axe. Send it to me. I love the Small Forest axe. 😃

Good point. I need both in minimum kit.

How can you justify the cost in Italy of Euro 162,00 for the Gränsfors Outdoor axe which, all in all, is only a small axe made of recicled steel (as honestly Gränsfors Bruks explains in their brochure) when in Italy different Companies produce similar and perhaps better axes, according to my practical experience ( I own and have texted on the field both) at a price of Euros 40,00?

Nope.
Been using axes since I was a child and I wouldn't spend money on a Gransfors. The steel is technically a 1060 (good axe steel) but the heat treat is way to hard often times and they have been known to chip out badly on harder cured woods or when temperatures drop.
The Gransfors are good for bragging rights but I'll take my Fiskars X7 in that size category or one of the classics I have restored.
For context I live in North Central Alberta Canada in a rural area with tons of woods I personally have access too and upwards of 25-30 axes I have restored over the years.
Hatchet heads are hard to source though, they aren't very common in my AO at all.

I like my outdoor axe, but the handle is far too rounded, narrow and slick. It twists DANGEROUSLY in my medium sized hands when chopping.

My sharpies I carry are this axe, a Boreal 24, and my LT Wright Outback in 3v.

Great kit for what I do in the forest.

At that point if all you do with an axe is splitting small fire wood just take a sturdy knife

Does the outdoor axe split better than batoning a becker bk2 into say a 5 inch log?

Great video there, really like all of the work you've put into that editing it looks very slick.

I've had a small Husqavrna axe for years and even after acquiring bigger and better axes since then, I still keep coming back to it for exactly the reasons you describe in the video. It's light, it's portable, it fits inside my daypack without a problem, and it works for 90% of what I do. Makes me wonder whether the Outdoor Axe might be a good upgrade...

Saying one is better than the other is too broad of a statement. You should just focus on the strengths of the outdoor axe without bashing the forest axe.

Sad. Everyone knows that refurbished Norlund hatchets beat everything you bring to the table.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on the GB Outdoor Axe and the Wildlife Hatchet.

I have the GB Mini Hatchet, Wildlife Hatchet and a Small Forest Axe, and have been considering getting the Outdoor Axe.

I wholeheartedly agreed with you about the Outdoor Axe over the SFA in this country.

I wouldn't want to carry a SFA far, whereas the Mini and Wildlife are fine!

The SFA is a phenomenally good tool, I just can't carry heavy stuff due to injuries, so travel by folding bike and packrafts.

I take either a Silky F-180, a Gomboy Outback or a Bigboy Outback saw with the GB Hatchet as I'd rather saw quickly and efficiently than chop!

I also have a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel (there are countless videos showing this tool being used as an improvised hatchet, which it does remarkably well. However I use it as a shovel).

Have one of these. This is a great backpacker axe or making fire axe. Combine this with a gomboy size saw, and you can built any normal non permanent shelter. It has a long shaft and makes it is a beast for splitting wood to be a hatched, for thats what is after my opinon. If you are working with logs less than 10-15 cm in diameter you dont need a saw. That is big enough for most summer conditions, but not in the winter in boreal countries. But one thing could have been better. The shaft are to narrow and smooth at the bottom for an adult man. This is an easy fix with hockeytape.

When I'm in the kayak or packraft I take that little axe and a silky pocket boy. It's about the lightest useable combination for the twig stove I have found(YMMV). There is also a safety benefit because I use it mostly from the kneeling position and the head arc is well outside my body position and any misses go into wood or the ground. its also light enough that maintaining control is about as easy as it can reasonable get for an axe. Even if the only wood you can find is a 3 foot across log you can use the little axe to chip wood and fill your twig stove. It definitely punches above its weight when used smartly.

I understand where your coming from bud and agree for the most part other then splitting logs that are more then a 5/6 inch diameter what do you do in these circumstances

If you make that kind of choices you are much more of an influencer then a bushcrafter for sure.
To pick an 0,5 kg axe over an 1 kg axe and with a 13 cm longer handel - that tells me you are not in the woods for working at all. You are there to make videos and nothing else.

I have multiple Gransfors Bruk axes. I do not own the out door axe that looks to be more of a hatchet. Is the pole hardened? That would make it a we more useful for me.
