Thanks for the shout-out!
ОтветитьI agree, a mechanic would think "well, 600 miles, how far can it be out of tune?". Being I owned my own taxi co., I have endless stories of mechanic mess ups, my favorite was a estimate of over $2,000 to do an exhaust system including catalytic converters at a ford dealer when, after getting a fuel pressure test kit off Amazon, I found it to be a $9 fuel filter causing car to be sluggish when accelerating.
Good job chuck.
1. The nylon windshield screws are that way because they are designed to break in an accident (as you mentioned).
2. When you do spark plugs, you can use iridium or platinum, and they will last a long time. But you're still supposed to check the gap of the plugs every 8 K miles (or whatever Yamaha specifies) so if you're going to take everything apart to check the spark plug gap (and maybe do a TBS while there if needed) then you might as well just use stock plugs and replace them when you go to check the gap. In the long run, I don't think you save anything with the iridium/platinum plugs when it come to motorcycles.
Great video. Keep the rubber down!
Well done, once again. I still go out in the garage to look at my S1000RR, too. Works of art.
ОтветитьHi there Chuck,
Ive bought a MT-09 Tracer 2016 silver n blue (FJ-09 equivalent here in Malaysia) thanks in no small part to your vids among others. I really love it and i did a fair bit of research before buying it, and I'm not disappointed. Every time I ride, it brings a smile to my face. And yes I do find myself just staring at it, often admiring the lines, the engine cowlings, the lights etc.
Anyways I just want to say i really enjoy your vids especially ones like this. Do keep em coming!
Cheers from half a world away,
Sam
My brother in law is a motorcycle mechanic at a Yamaha dealer. He has told me he rarely sees throttle bodies out of spec on machines with less than 12,000 miles. I was lazy and didn't balance at 600 miles. Better safe than sorry though👍
ОтветитьI recently also purchased the barkbuster for my FJ 09 but i was unable to fit the bar ends on, i see that you have the bar ends fitted. any suggestion on fitment?
ОтветитьI just picked up the Electric White model on 03/30/17. It looks way better in person (can you say that for a machine?) than on line in pictures. The white has a sparkle to it. They have updated the traction control. It now has two modes. It also has Assist and Slipper clutch for 2017. And yeah, I'm with you there on the going out to the garage deal and looking at the bikes. I got me a comfy chair, a little table, maybe a martini and a little Bill Evans on piano. Life is good at 64 . . .
ОтветитьAs a retired USAF Jetmech, I totally agree with you about working on your own bike. Only out of necessity will I even let the car dealer touch my car. Great videos and keep them coming!
Ответитьfresh oil always makes and difference and Yamaha use a very light mineral oil in the break in period which doesn't dampen the engine at all, hence the feeling of smoothness with the new oil. P.S. Arizona looks great, being in Britain I can only dream of such warmth and sunshine!
ОтветитьJust a tip. Yes, the nylon screw are intended to break it in case of an accident. About the rest, really good job.
ОтветитьGreat Video ! - I totally understand you sitting in the garage looking at your bike ! - I'm similar - only with the mountainbike I completely assembled by myself ... now I'm just making my motorcycle driverslicense - and in spring I'll buy my fj09 - to ride and stare at ;-)
ОтветитьI use to have a heated garage at my old house. Use to sit there and stare at my 97 Bumblee bee Valkyrie. It gets pretty cold here in Chicago in the winter. Been looking at these FJ 09’s this year. My buddy would like me to buy his older Valkyre Tour but I don’t think I want something so big anymore, although that flat 6 motor has a very low CG. I still have an old 1983 LTD 750 in my garage. I took the carbs out and cleaned the jets, so I’ll probably put that back in service this summer. It was a very fast bike back in its day. I may have to wait a year or two to get the new bike. Oh well, we’ll have to see how life shakes out!!!
ОтветитьAfter the sync you may want to swap the hoses and start it again. If it's not the same then the gauge is bad.
ОтветитьDid you use the standard fuel line to hook up the backwards fuel tank to do the throttle bodies or is that an extra piece of fuel hose?
ОтветитьHey chuck. I have a 2019 tracer 900. Did you notice that when you did the sync. That you had less vibration in the handle bars at about 4000 rpm. Let me know thanks. Your videos are great.
Ответитьthanks much chuck, u know i bought a new new tracer so i dont have to deal with this stuff, i didnt know i have to do this, a bit anoying
ОтветитьGood video. My local dealer wants $360 plus parts. I think I will do it myself.
ОтветитьThanks but, not sure what your helmet camera has to do with throttle body sync? Thanks again.
Ответитьvery useful video ... I paid for the 600 miles service on my 2020 Tracer 900, but I didn't feel confident, I'm thinking about everything you said to keep doing it myself. Thank you
Ответитьwhy call an FJ09??? its called a tracer 900 ffs
