Great video. I've made a couple of these now for moving things about easily. 6013 is about all you can buy in regular hardware stores in Australia. Love your videos and have learnt so much from them.

A couple thoughts: concrete floors are also notorious for not being flat! Most of them are like the surface of the ocean! ; Love those Lincoln tombstones! Great asset in a small shop! Known several guys who bought Miller thunderbolts, and every one of them had issues with them. The movable core locking up, the diodes burning out on the ac/dc version, and they all had that ultra annoying loud noise like a needle scaler running up against a piece of hanging sheet metal! Good news though! They make great boat anchors! Ha!

So funny the types of rod that different people like to use. I think ChukE2009 says that he prefers to use 6013 on most things but you say you dont like it. Interesting.

So I was using a 6011 3/32 rod and seems like a fresh rod was wide open almost getting out of control sometimes. But as the rod burned down it seemed to smooth out a lot almost like somebody turned the Amps. Is this normal? I was using an amico 160 inverter welder. Was the same on both polarities.

Fiters use a porta band to cut steel .I'm a BOILERMAKER and I use a grinder with a cutting wheel. Also Boilermalers weld in place gutters use a pipe vice to weld.

Good rod choice, sometimes low hydrogen rods can't be accessed during a weld process

Question: I'm using HOBART brand 6011 with a Lincoln tombstone set to AC at 110/120 amps. I'm getting these pin holes/inclusion that are in the throat of the bead and on the base metal where there is no weld. They look identical from weld to base metal. I've not seen anything like this. (I looked at your video to see if I was doing something wrong.)

Do you normally Weld with a 6011 rod on material you are using.
I was welding up a tail gate for my trailer the other day and I was using my thermal arc fabricator 211i machine 6013 1/8 Lincoln rod on 65-90 amps and it felt like it running okay but once I chipped of the slag it looked like I haven't welded in years . Then I would end up blowing holes and. Well it was just a mess. my thought is it's not the correct rod and maybe I should of been using a 6011 or a 7018. Idk what do you think.

One thing to point out, when welding casters, so so often it is galvanised steel and welding galvanised is quite poisonous, so be careful when welding galvanized material. The zink can kill you. I am talking from experience of galvanic sickness.

I really like watching these kind of AC stick welding videos, America was built on AC welding and used for decades in farming and repair work and still works just as good as it ever did. I just think its pointless to spend the extra $$ on a DC machine if you are just buying a welder to have in the garage or barn for general fab and repair. keep the videos coming thanks.
