Death Stranding: Misunderstood Masterpiece [SPOILERS]

This video is like writing a 3 book trilogy on a single blade of grass.

Not really a masterpiece but it was a interesting simulation with interesting story for improvements. Hopefully part two will improve on the gameplay better and make this work more like a open world with people and better side character.

Remind me a lot of metal gear solid 5. Open world but still doesn’t have depth and still felt empty.

I agree this game is very thoughtful, but I think the main theme is connection and rebuilding a shattered people and society in the face of huge adversity. I do think some of the holocaust stuff was more of a stretch or a coincedence to he honest. The chiral network being built on BB’s seems more to me to represent the unfortunate sacrifices and blood that waters a nation. Plus the UCA government actively had people on the inside looking to bring light to the sketchy stuff to ultimately reveal the conflict and resolution with Amalie and her fate as an EE.

I just finished the game for the first time yesterday and this video actually opened my eyes to the themes similar to nazi-ism that I didn't really pick up on during my initial play through. I do agree on how this game can turn people off at the start however, a friend of mine was like this when he tried playing through it and was turned off by the main walking/delivering mechanic.

Im going to give this game another shot sometime. For me, personally the HUGE problem with the game is the tone of the game together with the aesthetics. Im sorry it just doesn't match...

It's simple. If you liked Metal Gear and Walking Dead, this game is awesome. If you thought Metal Gear and Walking were overrated button-pushing simulators, this game is garbage. The only thing this game is missing are the corny exclamation marks whenever the bad guys spot you.

So many millennials, always bitching and crying, wanting originality in games and movies but every time a developer comes with an original idea he gets crapped on. This game was so unique and amazing yeah, dumb ass is called in a walking simulator the same people who plays train simulators and farming simulators…. I really hate my generation.

I abandoned the video about 3 minutes in. The author does not acknowledge the low skill ceiling of DS. If you're a casual gamer or are simply playing for the story, then it wouldn't be a sticking point. However experienced gamers (as most of Kojima's fans probably are) have a right to be upset.

Ima just happy the game finally got a PC release so I can finally play it. I refuse to buy a PS5 I almost did cause of this game cause I'm a retarded Kojima fan and have been since I was 5 with MGS.. but to me it wasn't worth it for one game so I got an Xbox X instead. And a gaming PC build. Lol

My ex bought me the collectors edition of DS for the PS4. I thought I would like it. Played 4 hours. Never picked it up until I got my Steam Deck recently. Probably 50 hrs deep or so. Wow. What the fuck.

My experience with it has tethered me to the feeling of what life I had and led when I first got it from my ex. :( memories feel like a thread or a ripple to another time. I didn't appreciate it then. Like many things.

This game is fucking beautiful man. I love it so much. EXCEPT THE DRIVING UP MOUNTAINS FUCK YOU. I do get why it’s so annoying but holy…….. shit lol. But literally besides that it’s a total masterpiece and I love this game

I think its a fun game, dont listen to anyone who says that its supposed to be boring, if you dont enjoy it, then its not for you, which is okay.

Reason why I feel like DS is a master piece is because of the change in the gameplay structure that I did not enjoyed in many Open world games.

Many (or all) of the open world games that I have played has same rhythm.

Pick a quest at point A. Navigate yourself to point B, where the quest will occur. Complete the quest there. Pick another quest to point C. Navigate yourself to point C. Do the quest there. And repeat. Everything in between is just dead land. Sure, there are quests that are like “deliver this milk tank to the village” kind of quests, making the “path as the quest” but they are just deliveries without any challenges.

Why make open world game when the map is too huge to navigate in? Also, Most of the times the quests has to be completed in a manner so that satisfy developers criterium.
“Park here”, “don’t go outside this area”, “don’t kill him”, “break the door by using this exact explosives” How is this an “open world”?

Death Stranding is opposite, you have to rethink your way of playing when playing.

You pick a quest at point A. Your mission IS the way to the point B. That’s the biggest difference.

I enjoyed this so much.

I could pick harder path to challenge myself. Maybe take snowy mountain next time for shorter delivery distance, or because the package has to be delivered cold.

Then I find bunch of zip-lines that somebody made in the mountains, so I connect them.
I end up making the more quicker way to point B while taking riskier way. This has to be experienced and I’m glad I did that.

Putting nonsense and whatever else you can think of is not profound. That makes your work something pretentious that makes you think it's only superficially deep. Kojima should get off his ego cloud and his followers should stop worshipping something he is not.

I finally finished it today. Picked it up last week and couldn't put it down. I'll be honest I heard the rumors it sucked and all you do is walk around and was like nah, but I finally jumped in and oh my God, it was beautiful. Giving it the tag of walking simulator is a gross understatement. This game is a mind f*** and makes you question what drives life as we know it. It feels so raw and every conquer you have in the game fits the narrative so well in the idea of life vs death that I would argue makes it worth the struggles and somewhat repititiveness of it all. You keep going and going until you don't want to anymore and turn the game off and come back later. After all, what is life but going on and on until it doesn't? Does it end? Who knows, but this game is so poetic and is one of the few titles I wish I could erase my memory and experience it all again. Few games today give me that same feeling.. great job!

I think this was a good, maybe a great, game but I wouldn’t say it’s a masterpiece. There’s serious pacing problems, some questionable writing (goofy), and too much backtracking. It’s not that I didn’t understand it, just don’t think it deserves a masterpiece title.

Horrible story, just skip all!
