for my true fans theyll know this is a reupload! was originally going to combine this with my JJK animator vid or make it with a patreon exclusive. but with the complete meltdown of jjk2, i felt like it made sense to drop this vid. This is where extreme ambition and greed leads you. F in chat for another mappa project with a production meltdown... when will Otsuka and the whole mappa leadership learn🤦‍♂️

We can call this the "MAPPA incident"

In all seriousness I hope the animators get more time so they can see the true vision of their work through without being the guy from ZOM 100.

Funny thing is, KyoAni nor Ufotable actually release anything more than a 1 or 2 anime per year, hell, Kyoani is still recovering from that arson attack in 2019. Even if MAPPA decided to go the KyoAni route of training EVERYONE inhouse AND giving them working wages, they'll still need to literally quarter their project intake for the same production flow.

JJK S2 needs to go on hiatus until the can figure out how to treat their animators better. we can wait for that shit and catch up on the manga.

Not just Mappa but 90% of the studios in the industry.

Harsh deadlines are given by the companies that invest and own rights of the show like shueisha, toho animation, etc. Studios barely get profits and a say on the schedule since their margins are very low. All this Mappa hate for bad schedule is not solely their fault, PC (production committee) gave them a schedule from dec 2021 - July 2023 for jjk but the team that works on jjk is also the main staff of Csm which was being worked on before the PC gave mappa a schedule. Because of this, Mappa couldnt have canceled its production for Csm so it took jjks production time even tho the PC knew that team wasnt free. Jjk s2 production started in Nov 2022-ongoing now which us why animators are having issues. Mappa asked for a delay but got only 3 weeks break and got denied an extra break so now Mappa can't delay it or end the production since its in a contract with PC. Even the animators are blaming the PC but noone highlights on it and just thinks its Mappa like come on do more research about Mappa's production

I mean there has to be a way to let them know that we all anime manga fans are not in a rush! I know they have contracts but they should not sign them all just to be the best! They alredy are so they can slow down now! They priority should be being an examples for all the studio, having healthy animators and staff healthy schedules! I swear if they had less production and more time those animators would produce some of the best ever produced so please be vocal about this anime fans

Can somebody check Hells Paradise Episode 12 and focus on Senta (the guy with Glasses) i know i am not the only one seeing it. It's visibly worse, i am okay with off model characters sometimes even in still frame.

and not mention anything about hiring more people to rise said productivity. The poor animators 😭

CSM anime is just souless, just like the JJK ep 17, tons of flashy animation, but it is so incoherent and messy. Such a disappointing leadership. SO IS AOT. S1 and S2 were so well animated with souls and creativity in them.

I was correct..it wasn't pure greed it, it was a race to become the beat. NOW!!!!! I don't like how he treats those who work for him. You catch more bees with honey. It's. Very western work/ideological motivation. But for Japan it's NOT THE SAME.. if he wanted to do this right he has to come over here to actually do what he wants. Japan culture isn't a individualism society it's very fasictic IN THAT Japan was a isolationist feudal society->then fasictic-> now In the modern day Japan is still trying to break free from its collectivist to individualistic. If you don't have the same people like you it's hard. But this isn't a practice I like and he is a POS..but I'm just giving a look into his mindset. Okay

Once the studio gets successful, it becomes greedy having the Madhouse Studio situation all over again. It sucks because I'm pretty sure most of the staff members moved to Mappa because of the work condition.

It's disappointing but I can't say I'm surprised. Everything ends up turning into an arms race of some sort. Studios are basically in a competition to constantly one-up each other to be on top. While I understand why an animation studio would want this, higher pedigree means more license holders coming to you for work and possibly even more creative freedom, it comes with it's own consequences. Like the ever worsening work conditions and salaries for animators, especially in MAPPA's case. There was even that recent case with "Zom 100" last season where Bug Films couldn't even finish its run due to all the delays and production issues so the rest of the episodes are on an indefinite hiatus.

And here I am just wanting a decent production to output a good enough looking and paced show. Like damn, two of my favorite studios are Lerche ("Carnival Phantasm", "Monster Musume", "Astra Lost in Space", etc) and C2C ("Harukana Receive", "Majo no Tabitabi", "TenKen", the currently airing "Shangri-La Frontier", etc) and it's not like they are winning any rewards for their works.

But at the end of the day, I'm just a consumer, not a business.

For kyoani making anime is just like a sub-product and it is their one of the many sources of income followed by cafe, tv ads, etc etc and for mappa it is the primary source of income and can never achieve the model of kyoani if this will be the case. if they somehow grow their 3d department and focus on making games and make anime just to promote their game in that way he can achieve the model of kyoani but that requires lot of money, infulence ,reputation, backing by powerful companies and reach to the overseas talent and imo manubu is seeking these things from his awful practices which is a bad thing from a ethical point of view.
Also getting big shounen jump ip will be difficult as big companies like kodokawa, toho etc are making internal studios to monopolize these huge constant big source of income so if a studio don't evolve fast in these situation they will be out of the business in near future
my big gripe about manubu is he is a good at seeing noticing the business enviroments and have lofty ambition but his planning is like a 16 year old cramming a day before a test a bit nuanced planning taking into account the human resources would have not led to his doom.

I feel like this is going to end up with serious consequences like death or a mental breakdown between many animators. And I can only hope that this leads to serious workplace reforms for animators in Japan and maybe the rest of the world. But then again that's probably too optimistic. 🙄

Yuri on ice was produced under tight schedule and made a lot of money and he said that’s it, let’s increase the production of the studio

Mappa is not an upcoming studio anymore, they clearly made their mark from making Yuri on Ice even before that. Studios like C2C and 8bit are the ones making their name for the quality of anime they produce. Not all stories a hit but the production quality is always above average even more.

Like 8bit who was known for making Reincarnated as a Slime series, but later then produced Blue lock, now Shy and next is Yuru Camp S3. On the other hand, C2C from making slice of life to high quality Isekai shows, now Shangri La Frontier is one of the biggest hits this season.

Quantamental
Quantamental - 15.11.2023 10:49

The only thing that MAPPA has done any good is Jujutsu Kaisen.

Every other thing they've done is usually garbage.

They took over Full Metal Panic from Kyoto Animation and that turned into complete trash.

They took over Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga from WIT Studio/Production IG, and those turned into secondhand mediocrity shows as well.

MAPPA should just focus on one show and do good at it, and stop trying to compete with the larger, more established, more experienced and quality-driven studios.

It's really annoying that these little studios like MAPPA, Drive, LIDENFILMS, etc. are trying to be something that they're not. They should leave quality production to quality studios and stop trying so hard when that's not up to their level.

These noobs are so inconsistent with their art style and direction. You can see the shift in quality from episode to episode. It's insulting to the original source material as well as the original animators...

They should not be entrusted with popular shows that had well-proven studios running them and just trash the art quality and animation along the way just because they need EXP.

First off the reason KyoAni was that they were an ALL Woman team and a husband who for the first founding years served as president, which was unheard of for the time especially since their first work, AIR, was based on an already popular visual novel that, even as condensed as the story was, still makes me cry to this day for how well done it was

It wasnt founded by misguided passion, near unattainable dreams, and rush productions, but of love of the source material, care for its members as if the studio was a mother, reflected on the original all-woman team who were primarily mothers/wives

Its why when the fire happened everyone, not JUST anime fans, but EVERYONE mourned for their lives, even the author of Chainsaw Man was heartbroken enough to write about it in his oneshot, Look Back, because the devastation was that traumatic

That is love that was cultivated across multiple years, projects, etc. and can't be easily sustainable if you work everyone to death! Im glad these animators are speaking up cause this is nuts!!!

Also, at this point, more and more I want to see Chainsaw Man animated by another studio but considering MAPPA is fhe fucking committee... Yeah, that's just a fucking pipe dream. Goddamn this just broke my heart. To think I used to support the studio back then.
