I’ll always admire his creativity, and Paint It Black, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Under My Thumb, and other songs would no doubt feel empty without his contributions. But I feel it also helped Brian was the one who stood out appearance wise, a cool name like Brian Jones, and he had done most of the early interviews. And younger generations tend to uphold a rockstar more so for their melancholic nature than what they actually contributed, unless you’re actually talented like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Amy Winehouse. He was talented but I feel like his contributions are minimal compared to Jagger/Richards.
Ответитьconsidering that he's something of a lost rock icon these days, i'd have to say he's under-rated; there are probably many young fans of the stones who know nothing about him & his importance/contribution to the band.
ОтветитьThey murdered him.
ОтветитьI loved Brian Jones. Being sensitive and shy and not ever getting his parent's approval for his chosen profession had a negative affect on him. Most likely he suffered from depression and as a result he self medicated as many people did back then. Even so you can't take away the fact that he got the band together and introduced different sounds to rock n roll. Back then people were too stupid to realize that people needed help and just let them self-destruct. The same thing was happening to Keith's friend Gram Parsons. If these guys had some help rather than being dismissed as drunks or junkies maybe they would be alive today. Mick Jagger has never been for anyone but himself and was very happy to see Brian self-destruct so he could take over the band.
ОтветитьThere really are two different sides of the coin. After a certain point he had nothing positive left at all. It's not just the stones that said this John Lennon was quoted as saying he was absolute trouble towards the end.
ОтветитьI didn't buy keith's book to but to my shame I read it. I couldn't believe his lies. The cruel way Brian was treated when he was obviously ill is beyond comprehension yet keith never acknowledged what he did to deliberately destroy Brian mentally. There are those of us still around that remember the the truth about Brian. The demonizing of him to rob his memory of his legacy is the most nasty part. These kids now think keith is some sort of hero and it is disgusting. Those of us around long enough know the deaths keith is flat out responsible for and besides Brian, Gram Parson's is another he should never get forgiveness for. I always point out keith and mick when people talk about karma. They are one of the main reasons I no longer believe in it.
ОтветитьDefinitely Jones is under-rated by Richards who keeps insisting Ian Stewart was the founder of The Rolling Stones, the piano player who would only play major chords and who was not allowed to be a member by Oldham because he looked so uncool. Brian founded The Stones, he advertised for members (including finding Stewart that way), he was already playing gigs, he named the band, and got them the gigs before Oldham became manager. Got that, Keith? You were there, you should know it, so stop trying to change history. Jones even taught you how to play open chords and Mick how to play harmonica. In fact, if it wasn't for Jones wanting to make blues much bigger and take it to London, it's quite likely there would have been no London blues scene, so no Yardbirds, no Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, no Cream, nothing but pop. No Jones, no Stones.
ОтветитьBrian Jones' two biggest errors:
1. Not owning the name "The Rolling Stones."
2. Partying excessively.
Brian Jones was musically brilliant and would've been as essential as Mick and Keith, had he lived.
With that said: If you listen to the outtakes of Jimi Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower" with Brian Jones' horrendous piano contributions, I can see why Mick and Keith made the decision to vote him out.
But if Jones had owned the name, Mick and Keith would've had to form a new band with a new name.
For those interested in this sort of thing: Brian Jones was a Pisces.
Pisces are VERY prone to addiction.
This is a wonderful documentary of the Stones. Is sad Brian ruined himself with drinking and drugs. His music contributions by the unique sounds he made with different instruments made those early tunes the best. It didn’t matter he couldn’t write. I thought as a young teenager he was always the cutest. Mick just displayed himself as the bad boy type that attracted the girls. I liked them all, but I just thought Brian was the best looking until he self destructed himself. The personality difference between him and Mick just caused havoc. Was a shame he couldn’t hold it together. The drugs of the 1960s were totally ridiculous and out of hand with the rock groups.
ОтветитьThey were a better studio band with Brian but became the great live band when Mick Taylor replaced him.
ОтветитьTruth is he wanted to playblues
ОтветитьTHE STONES WOULDN'T BEEN SHIT WITH OUT BRAIN. JONES AND WE ALL KNOW THIS LOOK AT SONG LITtLE RED ROSTER. IF THATS NOT FACT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HELL ID.
ОтветитьJones wasn't underrated or overrated.
ОтветитьJones didn’t write paint it black. He hardly wrote anything but he was a brilliant instrumentalist who added a lot of colors to the songs. However, he was admittedly not the writer of any of their songs really other than maybe Ruby Tuesday.
ОтветитьLazy cold genius
ОтветитьThe first time I really heard BJ was on Twisted Metal Black for the PS2. Paint it Black was over some of the game play and it was haunting. I'll never forget it
ОтветитьThis is either narrated by someone with a terrible grasp of English pronunciation or a computer generated voice. It's a real shame.
ОтветитьDefinitely overrated. He didn’t write anything like Jagger/Richards did. Plus he had a foul attitude. He never did much for me. The Stones really took off after he was out of the band.
ОтветитьTotally underrated by people who didn’t/don’t pay attention to 1960’s music history.
ОтветитьDid anyone notice for throughout this documentary, the commentator constantly contradicts not only himself but several people offering their own assessment of Brian’s creative inclinations? On the one hand he states that Brian was unhappy with bands creative direction as he felt his “more sensitive introspective lyrics were squashed by Mick’s swagger etc…and that he was unhappy with the blues-rock direction the band had taken. Following that statement one of Brian’s girlfriends states that he was unhappy because all he wanted the Stones to stay true to their Blues roots. Which was it for FFS? The guy goes on about Brian wanting the Stones to go more esoteric and melodic but turns around as says he was unhappy because he felt the Stones abandoned their blues roots. This entire documentary is schizophrenic really. I also think it’s shitty that his ex- girlfriend’s, who no doubt would naturally harbor resentment towards him just sit there and bash the guy repeatedly. If he was so horrible why were they with him in the first place? A lot of these people make him out to be this unlikeable monster with little to no redeemable qualities to speak of. This is ridiculous as Brian was a very charismatic and popular figure on the London scene. To name one person of significance whom he was great personal friends with was Jimi Hendrix. From all accounts, if Jimi didn’t like you something was wrong with you. Jimi despised Mick Jagger but adored Brian Jones. I’m not buying that Brian was Jealous of Mick and Keith either. Hurt and dejected by them yes! After all, with the help of Oldham they stole the band from him. Make no mistake, Oldham and Jagger were tremendously jealous of Brian in the beginning. I think Keith just kind of went where his bread was buttered best.
ОтветитьHe founded the Rolling Stones. That is enough.
ОтветитьHe was the better musician in the stones.
ОтветитьI don't think it possible to be underrated anymore. The end of this video is, of course, a cop-out.
ОтветитьPoor tortured soul
Ответитьall the original stones were overrated...but very successful
ОтветитьAsk his children what they think him. No one ever thinks of them
ОтветитьOverrated. Looked cool. Played basic stuff.
ОтветитьBrian's tale deserves a better narrator. Unlistenable.
ОтветитьThe fact is he was instrumental n creating a NEW scene n London of alternative music lovers. The Stones WOULD NOT b without his creative input. Listen to his recorded sessions. He's the 1 responsible coming up w/ the differing sounds, chording's, timing, etc. He was a hedonist n the free loving 60's. His was innovation NOT stagnation. PEACE
ОтветитьMick and Keith not only took the spotlight but greedily took the credit and left Brian out.
ОтветитьThe Vincent van Gogh of music !
ОтветитьBrian has always been my favorite member of the band, even though I was only 10 when he died. This was a very interesting story, but the AI-generated voice drives me crazy.
ОтветитьWell, let’s look at the facts. Brian Jones mastered 60 different instruments. I don’t know anyone else in history who has come close to doing something like that perhaps you do. Let me know your thoughts.
ОтветитьR.I.P.
Brian Jones!😢
Brian Jones .. coolest stone by a country mile ...
ОтветитьUnderrated - No Brian Jones no Rolling Stones - His musical ability was what made the Stones.
ОтветитьWithout Brian Jones there wouldn't be any jagger- Richards ,hé didn't spent time writing songs ,only took their and enhanced them and made them musicales hits !! Korner Saïd " hé was thé Stones musician !!!
ОтветитьGod he was so friggin f.*******g great
Ответить"Brian's input can be heard in every song on those RCA recordings. What he didn't touch, he went out and learned. You hear his color in songs like Lady Jane or Paint It, Black. In some cases it was more than a decorative effect. Sometimes Brian would pull the whole record."--Andrew Loog Oldham
ОтветитьUNDERRATED. FACT.
ОтветитьVery very OVERRATED. He was a horrible Person. Impossible to work with. Sexually assaulted several women, fathered random children then abandoned, couldn’t even play his instruments anymore. And was kicked out he band. Then they started their greatest and most successful period and he had nothing to do with it. He was overrated. Just Because the guy died dosent make him a hero. He was evil.

ОтветитьI think is legacy is fairly established. He was instrumental in the early days of the Stones. He started the group, was the most passionate advocate and was a creative multi-instrumentalist. Unfortunately his drug abuse spiraled out of control and his drug of choice was barbiturates and tranquilizers which really killed his drive. Pretty common tale in the rock world.
ОтветитьDrugs And Bro Was Spectrum
ОтветитьHe was a musical genius
