It's not just Council workers, it's the entire Civil Service.
Private companies haven't been able to afford Final salary schemes for 25 years or more, yet their taxes are used to fund ridiculous schemes for the Public Sector.

Many years ago in South Wales, they were going to merge and change local councils. The existing management was invited to apply for the newly created positions after the change. I know of at least 1, who was not shortlisted for the next batch ( I believe these were director or very senior positions, et). But suddenly they announced that there would have to be a 12-month preparation and handover, meaning that all existing management would remain in position for that period to oversee these changes. However due to their enhanced workload ( more dinners and gin and tonics to discuss these things) they would greatly enhance their salaries, apparently £000's and as part of that of course they would leave with renumeration packages based on their final salaries along with of course their Pensions greatly enhanced due to their corrupt manipulated actions. Yes, Local Authorities are the most corrupt creative accounting organisations after the Government and, as with the Government, they need a major change and restructuring.

I’ve know for 40 years the council employee have been feeding they’re pension at the expense of the tax payer, what real pisses me is the arrogance of the council employees, when dealing with the general public, they’re attitude is undeniable aloof to the tax payer. All pedalling the Christian church rubbish along with other religions. Such hypercritical behaviour behind closed doors.
Providing them selves with free parking while making the locals pay exorbitantly high charges, waffling on about 15minutes towns while they won’t have to abide by these rules.

❤No local or central government employee, including civil servants, should be paid more than the prime minister, and senior deputies no more than cabinet ministers, thus saving another few billions a year. When they protest invite them to resign and try nd get a job in the private sector- not a hope for these jobsworths.

This has been happening ever since councillors started getting paid instead of the community running the councils for free as a civic duty, they only got expenses, (petrol costs) for mileage to and from the council work place, my father was one so I know how it used to be,

As with redundancy and severance payments, as well as pensions in the public sector, tax should be put on payments above the national average wage at a very high rate and as for redundancy and severance that tax should be 99% on amounts over the statutory government maximum. MP’s in particular should be levied the same taxes on all amounts received at least for the last 20 years.

So I don't have a final salary pension. My wife in the private sector has a significantly better pension scheme than me, binus schemes, private health care and so on. I had a 12 year pay freeze under Tory rule. I had to apply for a job 10 years ago in the office as the very productive frontline team was being cut in the name of austerity. I am now still on less then my predecessor from 15 years ago and the frontline team are trying to trudge on with 20 year old equipment with no prospect of any investment. Now you lot want to cut whats left of any pension. Here's a thought, get bent go look after your fecking area yourselves. I bet you don't, most of you can't even pick up a piece of litter blowing round in the street in front of your house.

Back in the day, local authority pay was kind of crap, but you got a good pension, fair enough, then pay was increased and the pension stayed the same, not fair, i know what i would vote for if given the choice between getting my bins emptied and paying a bloated pension for a second rater, answers on a postcard.

@philipwaters8902

The Local Government Pensions Scheme was established by Act of Parliament and local authorities are required to use it by law for staff. So, unless Reform form a government and changes the law there is nothing their authorities can do. Remember the vast majority of council employees are pretty low paid and bear in mind that a lot of the staff have to have professional qualifications to do their work eg social workers, planners, public health officers. Only the senior staff are relatively well paid but the number of jobs over £100k is small compared to the total workforce and private industry tends to pay skilled and senior people more for the same level of responsibility. So, it's a bit chicken and egg in that the pension and some measure (though not guaranteed) of job security is the pay off for not getting higher headline pay rates.

As usual Tice is talking absolute nonsense as he does nt understand that the local government pension scheme is a nationally negotiated issue and not dealt with ocally. Concils are certainly not paying up to 30% on pensions it is less than half that which included the employee contribution.

The wasted money isn't unique to councils, albeit it's a huge amount nationwide. Government, all the water companies, energy companies, the BBC. Everything that takes public money is a cash cow for shareholders, directors, executives. They all have expense accounts, chauffeur driven or company cars, the perks are endless. It isn't any wonder that the average ordinary person is financially struggling.
