Lydia, anything loving mothers affect us with, is never ridiculous. You are a superb example of her upbringing. Sorry for her sudden loss.

I have admired YOU and your exceptional work for many years. As a former jockey and owner I feel I'm speaking from an experiential place. Keep up the great work.

Nice job too Maddy. Would love a racing programme presented by you two, alongside Francesca Cumani, Leonna Mayor and Natalie Green, Oli Bell and Richard Hoiles.

Horseracing needs people like Lydia who put the sport before money bookmakers are not in to improve the racing product and racing needs to be put in the hands of people who love horses and the sport.

Was it because your mum you stopped betting on horses Lydia or because bookies wont take the bets anymore? probably not a good idea to bite the hand that feeds you i suppose.

I have nothing but total admiration for Lydia Hislop. The work she must put in to be so on top of her subject must be phenomenal. She writes and presents with authority, enthusiasm and deep knowledge. She is a fabulous presenter and journalist.

I’m drawn to Lydia’s enthusiasm and love of racing. Straight talking. A pleasure to listen to. Mandy asked, and just as importantly allowed Lydia to respond in full. Both girls from the Midlands I guess?

Lydia speaks with such passion and enthusiasm for the sport. She covered a range of hot topics there with thoughtful analysis, honesty and common sense. The industry really needs to engage with her and others of that ilk, who care about horse racing and most importantly the grass root fans. Lydia's views on a 5 day Cheltenham are spot on and the industry leaders need to listen to people like Lydia who are acutely aware of the risks and dangers of alienating its core fans: in their relentless pursuit of ever increasing profit, at the expense of customer satisfaction and value for money. Great interview.

The minimum number of runners for any race should be 8+. This number should be compulsory. The industry is paying lip service to the breeding stakeholders. There doesn't appear to be anyone at the helm and the ship is taking in water, bigtime. Racing should be part of an entertainment package, not a single entity on it's own. This gives everyone a choice that have no idea how many legs a horse runs with. Some racecourses are seeing the light and diversifying to extra forms of catering to grannies and toddlers. If racing is seen as a circus, then it will succeed. If the circus only provides elephants, then the outcome will be disaster. Variety is the spice of racing along with diversity. When the octogenarian screams " I wanna go to the races " then we know all is well in the equine world. Sorry to hear of Lydia's mum passing as we all need support at all stages of life. It takes time to grieve and covid lockdown wasn't enabling anyone the necessary opportunity to celebrate their loved ones memories ❤. Looking forward to more great racing interviews from Maddy and Lydia that make living that much sweeter.

Well said Lydia

The Gambling Review may walk straight past
* Forcing bookmakers to treat customers fairly, and remove the ridiculous restrictions placed on punters accounts
- min £500 winnings per bet, for all account holders, should be brought in by the Review for all bookmakers who want to hold or continue to hold a licence to operate in the UK

* Missing the real difference between gamblers having financial issues through their betting - and the vast majority who arent having problems.
