People never mention how RE8 dropped the ball on the score. RE7 has such a memorable music track, from the opening start up music, which has a catchy lyric which actually explains the story once you complete it and all makes sense, to the save room music being so chillingly atmospheric and sombre. There's nothing in RE8. And RE7 had such awesome plot twists throughout.... the only one we got in 8 was at the end, when we find out that Ethan did in fact die in 7 at the hands of Jack, and that's how he has ridiculous healing abilities all along. Really not enough of this. I also found the whole vampires, werewolves, and Magneto's abilities never being explained a bit weird, and a departure from what the series is all about. Just felt like a total different game. Not enough horror either.
But, having said all that, RE8 offers a lot of value for money with replay value. I did 4 playthroughs to unlock all the extra content. There's nothing like going back through it on hard with the addition of everything you built up in previous games with infinite ammo now helping you out and making you a total badass.

I know this video was made before the Rose Dlc was out but i think her section in Donna's house with the weeping angel like mannequins was genuinely terrifying at points especially when multiple of them showed up

This is the best RE game. So much fun loved the drastic change of introduction of their version of vampires werewolves and other classic horror creatures. So much fun

I am playing re8 through for the first time now. I just arrived at the second lords haunted house with the dolls. I truly find it more and more horrifying the further in I go but not disturbing like the way that " the evil within " was. I think they totally achieved haunted theme park vibes. The action is sooo fun and they were completely right to take away the guns when they want it to become survival horror mode. I have played them all and previously to re8 I found revelations 2 to be very compelling to replay. I feel like re8 takes some of the style of revelations 2 and mixs in 4 and 6 very well. It never ever feels like part 2 but it does feel like part one in many parts of the game when you are alone in homes.

Anyways I am very happy and think this one really might be my favorite.

I really got bored in the second half of 7 and the first half was so depressing. 8 is much more fun and only gets better as you go.

I loved 4 for a long time but 8 is much more creative to me then 4 ever was. 4 was great but 8 is just better. More real life scary not so over the top like 4 was.

2 is really still the best for the OG feeling and maybe they can bring that back in re9??? Still no game that competes with the re2 police station. But 8 is simply more FUN then 2 which I love. 2 is so serious the whole time.

Re1 ,re4, re rev 2 , all seemed to contribute to re8 but I think 8 blended all those styles wonderfully. Can't wait to get past Lord 2.

I have issues with pretty much every part of the game except for House Beneviento. It’s short, yes, and the final chase is certainly not that flashy, but oh my lord does it use its time effectively. I’ve run through the baby section easily 12 times now, even speedrunning it, and EVERY time it stresses me out. I know exactly how she moves and where she’s gonna be and she STILL scares the shit out of me. The Angie chase used to disappoint me until I read a developers note about how it’s just Donna running through the house being slowly stabbed to death by Ethan in his hallucinatory state. It’s tragic and I love it so much. 10/10 section for me.

For me, the twist of Ethan being dead ruined RE7 for me.

The whole point of RE7 was survival, I don't see anyone at that dinner scene thinking, "so the goal of this game is to rescue Mia." No, it's to rescue Ethan AND Mia, (at least in retrospect, in the moment the player probably only wants Ethan to survive, further ruining the narrative twist introduced from Village.) That is the reason why the canon ending is the canon ending despite Mia being infinitely more unlikable compared to Zoe. Village's twist makes me think, "so what was the point of 7? Allow Mia to get away with all the horrible things she did with the connections?" The game's not about saving Ethan because he's already dead, it's not about Rose because she's not even born yet, so what was the point of 7 in retrospect to Village? Before I get the naysayer saying, "Well Ethan's confirmed infected in that game, why would the theme be about survival?" The simple answer is, HE'S NOT REVEALED TO BE DEAD YET. With that logic, there is no point in saving Mia or Zoe because they are infected right?

Furthermore, why did none of the Bakers (mostly Jack) express shock at the man who is supposed to be dead coming back to life as a normal not-molded? At the end of 7 it's shown that Eveline wanted Ethan to die because he "doesn't want to be her daddy," so why was Ethan infected? The boat tape shows that Eveline creates the mold by vomiting, she doesn't need to infect someone to create the molded, so why was Ethan infected in the first place?

The more answers I can think of, the more questions I have. Maybe Mother Miranda knew about the future of Ethan, Mia and Rose which lead to Ethan getting infected through her.
H O W?
Maybe Eveline was trying to look for a candidate like Ethan, whose DNA fused with the mold as perfectly as it did.
W H Y? Eveline only wants a family, so why would she want a family she couldn't control? Wasn't that the whole point of her keeping Mia infected?

Sorry, I'll shut up now, if someone has an answer that's explained in lore, PLEASE tell me what it is because this has been on my mind since I finished Village half a year ago and I don't want the plot of RE7 to be forever ruined in my timeline.

Yeah....let's do a sequel, no one hated on Ethan Average, let's bring HIM back, plus.......a village........in remote, rural Europe, okay ?...........RE4 was great, let's do the village thing again ! Also, everyone loved how grimy/grungy/harsh/rundown the look in RE7 was.....let's do that again ! Make it, like, the most depressing, soulless and grim RE ever - oh AND gross, make me a swamp monster that has low self esteem and is socially-paranoid - awesome ! But he has to be gross. Let's toss in yet another dissused factory ! Yay peeling paint and dusty bricks ! And there's an army of drill dudes...............just hanging around and totally not launching the coup they were made for. Sweeeeet ! It's gonna rain cash now 😐

this one is definitely my favourite of the games, the overall vibe and aesthetic completely stole my heart, and i shamelessly love Heisenberg more than any other character we've had in the games haha 😅. the game is so gorgeous and i really loved ethan, i really connected with him. this game was the second of the re games i played entirely on my own, with no friends watching or commenting around me, so i feel like maybe thats why i connected more deeply with it unlike the others where i had friends with me so we joked a lot during the playthrough - but overall i think if i replayed every single game again id still have the same feelings.

I pretend I’m Leon and Ethan’s line are those of the whiny son of the president I’m escorting… wimpy eagle. Games still fun 7-8/10

I think the issue with the lady D stalker is that she has too many scripted appearances, with one after every mask and also multiple talking to her daughters. Its possible to accidentally only ever see her in these scripted sequences. I still think mr x is the only good stalker they have done (jack was fun but he stalks for such a short period of time, if you knock him when he pops up in the bathroom you can get to the puzzle and get rid of him before he even gets in the same room as you again)

Something just came to mind when you started talking about Mia towards the end...We know she was a bio terrorist and a handler for Eve, but we are also introduced to Ethan already in a relationship with her.

It has been shown before that most handlers are usually in fake relationships to make themselves seem normal, I am now NOT convinced that Ethan wasn't already a bioweapon before even being introduced, whatever he was + the mold might have created a super weapon which is why Mia was told to stay with him, Rose was just a happy accident that will come back to bite Umbrella in the ass.

I really liked how in the castle Lady D could be seen searching for you opposed to always kind of knowing where you are like Mr X in RE2R. I do agree I wish she was in the entire game but I also like Heisenberg a great deal too. I really hope we get a genuine followup to the revelations with the BSAA at the end of the game but who knows. The DLC for Village is...disappointing for me.

I loved RE8 on my first run of the game. The beautiful setting and atmosphere draws you in. The characters are pretty fun to watch. I like playing as Ethan again who is this time more prepared as a natural consequence of the events of RE7.
But, when I went to replay it again I realized that the gameplay is kind of boring. There’s little actual tension and I don’t feel like I’m about to die at any moment (unlike RE7, for example). So I’m going through these spooky-looking locations without fear because I know what’s around the corner already. Meanwhile I’m afraid replaying other titles BECAUSE I know what’s around the corner. In RE8 the enemies feel like more of an annoyance than a terrifying threat, and you just kind of smash through areas quickly and never return to them.
I guess I just prefer the slower and more methodical approach other RE titles require from the player. This game easily could’ve been scary as hell, but Capcom just didn’t want to go for that.

In defense of the music puzzle, just stop adding these to games. I grew up poor and never saw a piano in real life till i was much older and saw one in a shopping mall. How is somone like me who has absolutely no musical backround or even touched a piano supposed to solve a puzzle involving playing one? Not to mention there are people who are tone deaf or actually deaf out there. The way i see it you either make them so stupidly easy theres no point or youre forcing players to look up online guides unless you just so happen to know how to read music. So yeah just leave the stupid music puzzles out.
