Hey there, this is Brad from Firstsiteguide.com, and in this video, I’ll be explaining what a blog is, who writes blogs, and what you can expect when creating your own blog. We’ll start with some slides and then I will show you some live examples in just a minute or two. So let’s get started. All right. So put simply, a blog is a website or a section of a website that consists of regularly updated entries. These entries are known as blog posts and are most commonly sorted by the date they were published, from oldest to newest on the front page.

Unlike blogs, websites prefer pages that tend to stay static or unchanged for long periods of time. This is where blog posts and static websites are most different. Blog posts are usually listed on the home page or the main blog page inside of a website, with a short summary, as well as a small button or text to click through to read the whole post. Individuals, businesses, and large organizations all utilize blogs to help inform, educate, and entertain. They are a great way to provide information, updates on your products, or even your life. Many lifestyle bloggers travel and use the technology to add updates of where they are.

Blogs, generally, will have a feature on each blog post that allows for visitors to comment and leave their thoughts. This is a great way to interact and build a fanbase. So make sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity on your own blog to answer questions and alleviate concerns. Now, I want to show a few live examples of some blog posts and websites with inner blog sections. The first of which is smartpassiveincome.com. Right off the bat, you will notice that this first page, the home page, is actually more of a static page.

It has some information about Pat Flynn, his latest podcast on the left, and his latest blog post on the right. However, if you click the “View blog” button right here, you will notice that it will take you to his main blog page where it lists his blog posts by the newest to oldest. Here is another example, a little more common example. This time we are looking at getrichslowly.org, which acts a lot more like a regular blog, but it has the full post on the page instead of just a snippet of the blog post, which shows the newest blog posts on the home page sorted to the oldest after that.

And then if you click on the titles, it allows you to go to the inner blog post page on the blog. And finally, here is one more example, which is techcrunch.com, which shows its blog posts in snippet form on the home page. So if we scroll down here, they have the latest section, and then on the latest section, it shows a three to four-line piece of text of the article of the blog post. And then you have the “Read more” button down here to click and go to the individual page.

Okay, great! That wraps things up for this video. If you have any questions or need help, please visit us at Firstsiteguide.com. We’d be happy to help you out. Take care and enjoy starting your own blog.
