This is the first video in my new series 'A Quickie With Dave' :)

This series of videos is designed to be quick for content that doesn't require any in-depth description.

In this first 'Quickie', I'm showing a very cheap microphone package that contains a foam filter, or popper stopper, that fits the NT1A really well.

I used this filter on the NT1A so that I could use it outside, where it was very effective as acting as a foam windshield or wind filter for light breezes.

Here is the video where I use the Rode NT1A cheap foam filter. In the video the NT1A is being used on a boom, then on a microphone stand and finally on a boom using the NT1A as a wireless video microphone with a Rode RODELink wireless system.

Also in this cheap studio condenser microphone package is a shockmount suspension cradle. Although this mic package is based around the BM-800 XLR studio condenser microphone. The supplied shockmount suspension cradle also fits the Rode NT1A very snugly. Probably due to the BM-800 trying to emulate a large capsule diaphragm studio condenser microphone.

Even if you just equate this BM-800 package as a £6.99 foam filter for the Rode NT1A, it's way cheaper than 'so called' professional options and probably not that much different. Factor in that you've also got a spare shockmount suspension cradle for your NT1A, or maybe you bought a NT1A secondhand used without the Rode SM6 shockmount suspension cradle. Then this cheap option is just insane.

This foam filter works really well on the NT1A for close mic dialogue, as you can hear when I get on top of the mic whispering my credit and thank you to Hutchy. The filter also seems to only have a marginal impact on the EQ and tone of the NT1A.

Also, for anyone interested. The phantom power and amplification for the Rode NT1A for this video and my outdoor example, was supplied by the scandalously underrated SmartRig by saramonic http://geni.us/SmartRig

Lastly, and on the subject of Hutchy. A big thank you to Hutchy (David Hutchman) for another loan of his NT1A, you're not getting it back this time :)

Seriously though, when you can't afford to be buying certain stuff, it's great to have friends who help out. Ta, Hutch.

Anyway, I hope you've found this video informative, or at the very least entertaining :)

Thank you very much for watching this video, take care and goodbye now.

Dave (The Quick One) :)
