Hmm.....This Doctor forgot to mention FLOSSING.. I use a flossing plastic tip before I go to bed and have a gentle mouth wash for that refreshing feeling in your mouth. Floss in the morning gently and quickly after a gentle scrub with a good quality toothpaste. Flossing in between the gums and teeth removes a lot of minute food particles that bacteria love. I would go to the HYGIENIST for a deep clean ONCE a year. After the Hygienist visit use a metal dental scrapper to dig out any plaque is needed. Have a routine.

I live in the UK and for years I have had bleeding gums and have spent a fortune on various brushes, toothpastes and dental fees. My dentist informed me that I had gum disease and would need treatment which wasn't covered under the NHS healthcare system. I was referred to a private dentist where I had deep cleaning which cost £700 and informed that I would have to have further treatment but the initial treatment would cost £4700. I couldn't afford that as I am retired. I was researching gum disease on the internet and came across Dr Ellie's hygiene regime that was March 2024. At that time I had a toothache which had been bothering me for quite a while and wherever I visited the dentist they couldn't see anything on the Xray. I started following Dr Ellie's suggestions and I have not looked back. The toothache stopped but I had the tooth removed because food was getting under the crown which was causing the problem.
I was able to get all the ingredients at first but now I find it difficult to get Antiseptic Listerine and the ACT. It's on Amazon website but when it's delivered it's not the same thing. I'm now using UltraDEX instead of (CloSYS) Listerine Cool Mint and FluoriGard instead of (ACT). I have no problems getting the Crest toothpaste I also chew Xylitol gum. I have read Dr. Ellie's Complete Mouthcare System which was so informative and helpful and I will continue to follow your regime using the products available in the UK untill I am able to get the original. I do find that the Listerine burns my tongue so I can only use it for 30 seconds.
Thank you Dr. Ellie my mouth has never felt so clean. Finally a dentist who really cares.

With the pockets, youre describing whats called periodontitis. Yes you need a deep cleaning, but it should only be done if home care is well, and that alone is the one factor that determines wether or not the deep cleaning works. The periodontal maintenance procedures are great way to stop the need of another deep cleaning since people with periodontal disease grow plaque/tarter quicker than people who dont have periodontal disease; patients with periodontal disease that do a good job at home taking care of their gums can also be put as a regular cleaning if their probing numbers are good consistently in their perio maintenance procedures. No you cannot reverse periodontal disease, even if you somehow made the gum tissue reattach itself over tarter in a 6-10mm pockets and a probe can no longer get a 6-10mm pocket than this can actually end up being very painful to the patients over time; x-rays will also still be there showing evidence of tarter in that pocket causing destruction of the bone. You have to mechanically remove this and let the gum tissue reattach on its own.

@dr.elliephillips Dear Dr Philips, I like your system a lot. I've been using your strategies for almost a year, including xylitol after meals and drinks and the Original Listerine (I use your whole system to the letter). I eat low carb too. I did however get the most awful tartar build up, until I switched the toothbrushes you recommend back to my Oral B electronic rotating toothbrush (am head pm head - sensitive heads). I like the massage mode for massaging my gums. I'm a tea drinker so that's likely the culprit. I'm British. Thank you.

I have been a dental hygienist for 26 years… she is baiting you… she is getting viewers to watch by letting you think you don’t need dental cleanings, yet she is discussing all the signs of periodontal disease… and how in that case “deep cleanings” (Scaling and root planings) are necessary.

Deep cleanings are NOT the simple dental cleanings recommended 2 x annually. So she is stressing having “cleanings” if you are told you have pockets, which most people do because of lack of proper home care.

Xylitol does not remove all plaque, it is known to disrupt the adherence of plaque ( makes it less sticky) but does NOT work below “gumline”… where other bacteria (anaerobic) live that cause “gum” disease…xylitol is known to help prevent decay.. caused my bacteria that cause decay, not the bacteria that cause “gum” disease. We have MANY types of bacteria in our mouths. Think of how our guts have various bacteria…

She is mixing hope with a DASH of facts to get you to subsrcibe. To protect herself, she discussing harmful health outcomes if you do have pockets and don’t have the recommended dental cleanings, yet she is saying if you follow her protocol, you won’t need cleaning! She is creating a distrust of dentistry to protect her from being liable if you stop having cleanings, and develop advanced “gum disease.” Very dangerous…

I already always chew Pur Xylitol gum after my evening meal; I guess I must increase that to my other daily meal. I was wondering if it would work okay to just rinse my mouth with baking soda and water instead of that Closys product. I also use tea tree oil and neem toothpaste; is that just as good as the crest?

Because they want to destroy your good teeth so they can make more money. I have done deep cleaning and it makes my gums go deeper. Now I have gaps between teeth. If you do deep cleaning often, you are left with teeth that are loosen. And you’ll need root canal, then a crown, then a denture. That’s the long game that they are playing. Be careful.

I have a lot of implants and fillings that need frequent examinations. The easiest way to do that is with cleanings 3 times a year. I also have bad genes, with an acidic mouth environment and weak enamel so I'm very prone to cavities regardless of my oral hygiene routine. Some of us really do need regular dental care.

When I visited my dentist for a regular dental cleaning, my dentist poked at molar 31 and told me that he has to clean to pocket that was full of bacteria according to him. A week later, I had a big abscess exactly where the dentist scaled my tooth. I looked up on the Internet and read that an abscess is caused by a fissure in the root which would not show up on the x-ray and that the tooth needs to be extracted. I had to pay $1,400 to have my tooth extracted by another dentist. I sent a letter to the dentist whom I believe broke my tooth while scaling and asked him to reimburse me the $1,400. He refused to do so telling me that scaling doesn't break the root. I told him that I'm going to take him to court. His answer was the following that I will not win as deep scaling can't break the tooth. Is that true? Is there anyone who had the same experience as I did?
