This was the exact issue that I had with the Last Jedi. I have seen some great rationalizations for the story arcs provided by fans, but that is NOT what was shown in the movie. I think the story could have succeeded in hitting those plot/character points if they had managed to take the audience on the journey. But with the execution failing to do that, it was a really disappointing and frustrating watch for me personally.

Considering George Lucas is notoriously bad at writing characters and dialogue. I wouldn’t take that as insult.

Peoples criticism for George Lucas really distracts from how insanely talented he is. His dialogue maybe ropey like Alec Guinness said, but when its changed a bit, it fits the world perfectly.

I don’t disagree with George here but he also fell pray for not following the age old directing rule: “Show- don’t tell”. A big reason why so many people found the sequels boring was the amount of dialogue heavy scenes there were and stiff body language from those acting. Rather than showing a building tension or growth of character, he would only show it through speech after time skips or things we, the audience, weren’t privy to.

He’s still a very successful director and his vision has made an amazing community through a single story he told but the man does have flaws we can learn and grow from

What he is saying is to dumb it done and make everything as obvious as possible, because the audience is a bunch of morons. And proof can be find in the comments.

Never take film advice from Lucas. Take the business advice I guess.

And this is why Star Wars was saved because a humble writer now director Dave Filoni didn't have an ego about making anything. He was humbled to be helping tell the story that came to life from George Lucas and Dave was able to help save the Star Wars universe while Disney almost destroyed it by hiring these Woke Directors who didn't want to follow George's vision and wanted to make Star Wars full of rainbows and unicorns.

Yep, Filoni can't write can't direct. Stick to story ideas and let more competent folk bring the ideas to life on screen.

Lucas get great ideas but when he execute them he just does a terrible job, he can't write that well or even direct that well. But the dude got the spirit to push forward and experiment. On the other hand Dave is just shit. Especially after Disney.

Wouldve been great if the writers and directors of the spin off trilogy had that advice

George is repeating what Copola told and forced him to do back in the 70s. So being a hard worker, George asiduously learned to sit down and write until a script was finished.

He learned how to write. He did not learn how to write well, however. He did not learn how to edit. He unlearned what he used to know how to do, which is to take advice from other writers and directors and pass the work on to them when all else failed.

Well, Lucas can't exactly write. His dialogues are legendarily awful.

He is good at ideas, creating the general arc of the story, world building

He still needs to listen to it.

There are no perfect fits for creating Star Wars outside of George Lucas. Even though plenty of people hate his vision and execution of his vision. Constructive criticism is the best thing we can offer if we dislike something and we want it to be better, but remember not to get carried away! Maybe Filoni's new promotion puts him closer to the role that Lucas originally wanted, which was creative control without having to write and direct everything.
