I don’t need a reverb pedal, I just play all my gigs in large beautiful abandoned spaces where the sound of my music reverberates with the ornate but unseen ghosts of a forgotten era

Are these reverb effects made solely from the pedal itself or with other pedals combined?

I've tried tons of reverbs and I always go back to the JHS 3 series reverb. It does 1 thing and sounds incredible. I like to put it in front of modulation too to get cool tails.

I have the MXR Reverb and it has a GREAT room setting as well as very nice spring and plate as well. I never really used room until recently, but it's really growing on me and has been somewhat of a revelation to me lately as well. Good conversation there.

I half expected Mick to give the Imperial a whack at the beginning to see if the springs rattled. Though I guess mistreatment of such a beautiful piece of gear would be a shame.

Just question guys that are streaming.

I've got rack-mounted SPX 990 in my fx loop, giving me plate sound (can be bypassed))

I also have an ocean reverb pedal on my board that will do that but for now its set on spring is it better to run these both so in theory you've got one reverb always on an then other you just add through foot pedal there both mono send an from a sonic point of you is it not just better to run spring in the room through pedal an then run stereo room ambience reverb through plugin laptop ? thanks guys I just love idea running second reverb :)

I use the amp reverb only if im playing outdoors where it’s super dry, and I’ll leave it on.
Pedal reverb I’ll use as an effect and it’s usually washy, ambient and obvious. I’ll switch on and off

Ive experimented with ambient verbs with a Richtone pedal the has decent hall/spring/and plate, an OBNE Procession which has one type of kinda "hall-ish" sound but 3 different modulations, and the SA Collider which has everything but the kitchen sink. Those noises are fun, but I tire of it quickly. I'm an old fart and its just not me. As long as I can get my "base" level from the amp I'm happy..Of course if the amp doesnt have reverb, or it totally sucks, then ideally I want a reverb pedal. But in fact, a little delay can take the place of reverb in a pinch for 99% of what I play. But I'm lucky my Carr Rambler has a fantastic spring in it. Between 2-3 on the knob is plenty. Cranked, it even does a great surf sound, plenty of "drip".

16.55 what did Mick mean about Bring Your Daughter to the slaughter? Iron Maiden production has been too dry in recent decades but that song has tons of atmosphere. It was recorded in a barn apparently.

The answer is... “because the reverb in your amp is nowhere near enough reverb”. Nor is 1 reverb pedal near enough either 😃

I have to say it. I'm not even 7 minutes in trying to listen to the reverb on the amp and Mick, or Dick, not sure which one is which, can't keep his hands off the tremolo arm. Terribly irritating when you are trying to listen to subtle modulation sounds. Sorry, but I want to hear just the reverb from the amp. Is that too much to ask on a video that is not titled Why I Need to &%$%^ with a Trem on a Reverb Video?

@corpse-in-orbit
@corpse-in-orbit - 17.11.2021 11:01

What Mick said about using mild reverbs to sit in the mix – exactly. When I'm playing alone, I basically never use reverb, and I don't especially like playing with it. When I mix a recording, I'll put just a little bit of the same reverb on everything (usually room verb), and then a touch of another reverb on something I want to pop out of the mix (usually a high-passed plate). People drastically underestimate how much reverb is in pretty much every mix, and, oh, 80% of it is there not to be heard as such, but as a space-carving implement.

@kurtisr2339
@kurtisr2339 - 13.11.2021 23:52

Sometimes reverb doesn't have to work in the mix... like when everybody else gets to have a pint while you noodle for the room. Dan's breathtaking opener--which mortar-and-pestled my soul into a fine powder--is a perfect example. The room gets happy, the band gets happy, and you can let yourself get tangled up in all that glorious resonance.

Hello boys, from Bloomington, Indiana. As a recovering recording engineer, I love the use of reverb. It’s a great tool for creating space.

One question I wished you had touched on….where does (guitarist’s) reverb fit in a LIVE setting? For me, I rarely use reverb on my live gigging pedal board, just delay if I need to create a bit of “float.” The size/space of the venue imparts its own reflections on the sound, and onboard reverb can (potentially) make your sound less clear and present.

For example, I play in my church band. Many contemporary Christian recordings today have an “arena” sound, so guys at church think they have to impart that reverb wash in a live setting, then they wonder why my Tele-OD-delay with about 130ms/4 repeats sounds so huge through the PA.

In my opinion, reverb pedals are far superior to amp reverb, amp reverb is not good and offer fewer parameters to adjust.

Thought this was great! I'm of the same camp. Always have some amp reverb on, then will add pedal reverb over the top at times.

I think a similar show, but focused on amp vs pedal Tremolo would be cool as well!

Great playing. Love your take on reverb. Keep some on at all times. (Unless your playing where enough occurs naturally) the whole point is to emulate space.
Also when both those amps came on together it felt like a cheat code was unlocked. Amazing stuff guys
