Had to stop watching once you said, I don't know if i pronounced it.......yeah sorry here is your sign
ОтветитьThe “l” in yolks is silent. Reminds me of a story : Growers of almonds in California pronounce the word “ ah-monds”. Why? Almonds are harvested using a machine that shakes the nuts from the tree. When this happens, it shakes the “l” out of them.
ОтветитьThanks for the video. Actually not a big fan of Sacher Torte myself because, as you point out, it's quite dry when served here in Vienna. That said, I'm more partial towards the Imperial Torte from Hotel Imperial - but I'm a glutton for Marzipan. :D
ОтветитьSpeaking of apricots….how about apricot dumplings? It’s a specialty of Austrian cuisine and there was an Emperor (who was handicapped by centuries of inbreeding) who said “I’m the Emperor and I want dumplings!” when explained that apricots were out of season.
Ответитьyolk pronounced 'yoke' is another word in itself, better to pronounce the l in yolk in my opinion
ОтветитьDemel is better, a lot less dry and it lasts only three days and not two weeks like the Original Sacher
ОтветитьHow do I say it? Oh, I say “Egg Yolks.”
Thank you for asking.
Ah, the family of Sacher-Masoch, blessing the world with Sachertorte and masochism!
ОтветитьYolks because, as in the words of Eddie Izzard "You say 'erbs, and we say herbs… because there's a fcking 'h' in it!"
ОтветитьYolks in British English is yokes, the l is silent. At least thats my experience over the last 50 years. It is the UK so if you go 5 miles in any direction you might find a different pronunciation.
ОтветитьNot a delicious cake.
I've had it a couple of times and boah 🤧
Sachertort*E*
German is not french! The "e" is not silent!
I had this as a wedding cake decorated with fresh flowers. The wedding was at an exclusive boutique hotel with a ridiculously luxurious restaurant, and they provided all of the catering. I asked if they could do the cake too. The pastry chef was right on the edge of an “absolutely not” until he heard what we wanted. Turns out his grandmother in Austria sent them an authentic Sacher Torte every Christmas when he lived in Germany. He was so touched and happy. The guy absolutely went to town on that cake and it was so beautiful.
ОтветитьOne thing I really appreciate about Max is his impeccable pronunciation no matter the language. I secretly believe he’s completely fluent in every major language 😂
Seriously though, the effort to research the right pronunciation does not go unnoticed
My grandmother made these all the time at expert level. It‘s a unique treat.
ОтветитьAnd a hearty schlagobers to you too
ОтветитьI love these videos:). Just a question though... I would think to be authentic as you can you would not use modern appliances to beat batter together etc? I reckon it would make a difference?
ОтветитьDREAM DESSERT DESTINATION! 🤤🙏😍 And an Austrian German accent is my fav, well done!
ОтветитьIs her name pronounced Fuchs or...
ОтветитьI made a Sachertorte for my friend who loved it. I'm not much of a fan. By the way, the 'e' at the end of Torte is not silent and must be pronounced.
ОтветитьAcabei de descobrir essa sobremesa por um confeiteiro aqui no Brasil. Resolvi saber mais sobre a receita original e encontro uma baita história. Obrigado por contar como tudo aconteceu. Amei seu canal.🥰
ОтветитьIt's 'yolk', isn't it? 'Yoke' is also a word, but it doesn't mean the yellow part of an egg.
ОтветитьI’m southern. I say “ yokes”😂😂
ОтветитьWe're AUSTRIAN, not French! We actually spell what we write. Its SachertortE. We even spell that E at the end!
ОтветитьI don't think I've ever heard anyone actually pronounce the L in yolk
ОтветитьWhat about history of churros. The Spanish one's just flour and water
ОтветитьMy grandma used to melt 200g of dark chocolate in 200ml of cream and lightly whip it up to frost the Torte, instead the weird water-chocolate mix
ОтветитьFunfact: (Almost) every homemade Sachertorte is better than any of the originals. ;)
ОтветитьAmazing. Honestly I had a feeling you did it better from how juicy and succulent it looked.
ОтветитьI say it Yulks.
ОтветитьI’m going to make this with raspberry jam in place of apricot.
ОтветитьAs someone who lives in austria and has since he was born i think sachertorte is a bit generic
Ответитьit's Sacher Tort-EHH
ОтветитьI pronounce the singular form as "Yolk" and the plural form as "Yoks."
ОтветитьMy mom used to make this cake for us back in Romania. It is yum!
ОтветитьI am going to make this for my birthday
ОтветитьI saw an old episode of the French Chef with Julia Child where she made something very similar to this. Only difference is she garnished it with almonds. I think it even had the Apricot jam as she used Apricot jam in a lot of her desserts. I think she called it "The Queen Sheba" cake of something like that. It looked good, as does this.
Ответитьyour so cultured
ОтветитьThis entire time, I thought the Sachertorte was French and pronounced "Sah-shay-torte." Boy, was I wrong.
ОтветитьHey, kudos to your on point pronounciation of the ch, which is usually quite hard for english native speakers but fyi the e at the Torte isn't silent at all. It's really just pronounces tor-te.
ОтветитьThe glaze is supposed to harden in order to keep the cake fresher longer.
ОтветитьI rly am sorry to disappoint you but the original receipt is a closely guarded secret since its invention by the family of the Sacher hotel which u didnt mention at all :/
Ответитьi found out so many inaccuracies in your videos thats its educational content is more disinformation. like idk 15-30% completely inaccurate
ОтветитьKhakhao
Ответитьaustrian here. as famous as it is, personaly i don't like its sandy chocolate texture nor its monotone taste. i recommend to go for the apfelstrudel or the linzerschnitte instead.
ОтветитьFor a hot minute I wondered if I should order a Sachertorte online, straight from Vienna, but after the review... nope. I'm not a huge fan of it anyway, and if their cake is dry and the glazing hard, there's even less incentive.
ОтветитьSachertort-E
There is an EH at the END
I am from Vienna and I really don't like the Original Wiener Sachertorte, same reason: It's dry as hell.
Ответить"Newspaper said, she's gone to his head. They look just like two gurus in drag. Christ you know it ain't easy! You know how hard it can be. The way things are going, they're gonna crucify me!"
