It still takes longer if you want change back. But back then they didn't price crap 3.28$.

That guy who is impatient about whoppers is the Baltimorean I hope to emulate and aspire to.

Only reason I use my CC is the points / cash back. Always pay it off. Debt is the Devil.

I was working at McDonald's in the early 90s and at that time they only took cash and travellers checks. Like this video, a couple years later they offered credit as a choice and hardly anyone used it. It also took a long time to process b/c the credit card machine had to go through the fax line. Of course now with debit cards, people don't have to carry as much cash and still don't go into debt.

Paying for little things on a card, getting cash back and paying it off every month makes a lot of sense. Its big purchases that should be avoided. Only buy things with it, that you would have to buy anyway. This works if you have self discipline and everyone else using the card does also.

Yep, in the old days before ATMs and debit cards you were at the mercy of bank hours or had to use checks. If you weren't local, good luck using a check. Yet somehow we managed. Just like traveling anywhere. You better find a map before you went. The car always had a US atlas and more detailed maps of a few states as well as some larger cities. Phone books had maps but were usually stolen from the phone booths so you might have to stop at a gas station (the small local kind, not the huge megaplexes that exist now) and hope they would let you look at a map or buy one. Oh, and no cell phones so you were on your own. Maybe you had a CB if you travelled alot.

The push into credit card ubiquity was to gey people to stop using cash. Here we are 30 years later and cash is quickly fading into oblivion. Soon central bank digital currencies will be here, bring with it currency exoiration dates, and inability to purchase certain items. Talk bad about a politician? No meat for you, eat the bugs!

Until people figured out that cash doesn’t get you a credit score that you actually need to get almost anything but you’re right about financial stability kind of, but then you should use revolving credit with necessary bills if you get cash back

I just returned from London UK. Coffee shops refused cash, I had to use my card for a cup of coffee.

Responsible use of credit cards > paying cash > mindless spending of any sort.

I was 23 in 1993, I didn't have a credit card until 1998 because I paid cash or check, or on layaway. I had NO CREDIT in 1998 because I lived within my means and always paid my debts/loans. I had a hell of a time getting a card too. Screw credit cards and screw the big banks.

The only thing debit cards don’t offer that credit cards can is an extra layer of security: virtual credit cards. We only had to have money stolen out of our checking account once and have our bank allow no access to our funds one time to dump our debit cards. We are evidently not like the average American and do a paper budget, record every transaction and work together with our money. But we use a credit card for almost all of our bills and purchases and we are always on or under budget every month. It just takes self-discipline…just
