It still f*cks me up that he's playing the intro with the bridge pickup.
If you asked me to describe the difference in sound between bridge and neck pickups, I'd say that this song is the epitome of what the neck pick up sounds like.
Imagine hearing this song for the first time in 1988 and not being able to hear it again until 1990.
Ответитьcliffs of dover made me realise i have speed on guitar😅
ОтветитьThe performance that inspired me to try and emulate such a brilliant performer
ОтветитьThis particular intro, IMO, is : 10th grade, a Friday morning, you've just sat up ALL night, by yourself, listening to music, watching tv, unable to sleep, because you just did NOT want to , and for some reason, decided to see what NOT sleeping would be like. Oh, yeah, getting out of bed is HARD, you want to go to sleep, but now you HAVE to go to school. So tired, but so exhilerated. It's a first time in a lifetime of experiences that YOU controlled, that you "went beyond" what you had been used to. Such, such is life. Keep going. We can sleep when it's time. It's worth it.
Ответитьdamn
ОтветитьHim and Guthrie Govan
ОтветитьInspired me to learn that craft
ОтветитьIve seen more videos of folks doing Eruption covers than i have Cliffs of Dover covers. But Eruption is supposed to be harder to learn.
Ответитьif watching someone who is great at guitar made you stop playing then you were never meant to hold one to begin with. music isn't a contest.
ОтветитьMusic now adays get every day far and far from this, hope we will se something like this in the future.
ОтветитьHere it is 35 years later and I just saw him play this in a small auditorium in Rocky Mt Virginia a couple months ago. It was a smaller venue but sold out, and he played it with as much passion as he does in this video. He is now roughly 70 years old and continues to blaze. If you love rock guitar you need to get out and see him before he closes the door.
ОтветитьThis is just inspirational, don't give up ,playing guitar no matter how good or how average its a club that's happy to greet everyone. Please keep playing 😊
ОтветитьWow! Appegios from Hell.
ОтветитьThe intro gives goosebumps each time, this is one of the greatest performance ever recorded.
ОтветитьThis guy. ..
ОтветитьTimbre maravilhoso, técnica apurada e musicalidade impecável.
ОтветитьFantastic performance of one of that instrument’s masterpieces!
There are multitudes of guitar shredders working to show what they can do on the instrument.
There are not multitudes of shredders who are working to show what the instrument can do.
I STILL get chills hearing this jam. Well done Eric! A true time capsule. Born in 1967, Eric and Joe Satriani set a course that helped shape the 80's like no others. ❤
ОтветитьI always loved Eric playing. Creative genius? Very Under Rated!
ОтветитьThe song that make you smash Guitar Hero
ОтветитьMy sister's roomate blew it w/ Eric. Stupid college nympho.😅
ОтветитьOf course, we're all going to comment about the amazing guitar work, so I'm going give kudos to the director who so much time focused on Johnson's hands, which were the most interesting part of the video. It's pretty much the opposite of America's Got Talent, where they keep showing the reaction shots of the judges and crowd, which no one cares about.
ОтветитьDo you know what I love about Eric Johnson, all of his playing is just practice. And I know there are lot of people who are like "I could never play like that." It's not true, you absolutely can, if you put in even a fraction of the time he did into playing like that. Everything you think is hard isn't. It's just like 20 or 30 licks that he's practiced over the course of like 20 years. And just improved, and improved and improved. So remember that.
ОтветитьThis is a masterpiece 🎸🎼🙏💙🙂
ОтветитьLegendary!
ОтветитьI pray there is never a time where this does not remind me of my best friend Corey Austin Cooper. He was killed 6-28-1998 and there are no words to describe him. Beautiful human being.
ОтветитьWhen i first heard this song it was in I believe Guitar Hero and I tried to play it on Expert and it ended in disaster. Much respect to Mr. Eric Johnson
ОтветитьThis inspired me to pick up guitar. Thank you for your service 🫡
ОтветитьWhat a guitarist, I love this song
and the break at 4.30
I was at this ACL taping! Second row right between the two cameras. It was magical!
ОтветитьLike theres no words but there are if that makes sense, like u can hear the guitar saying the lyrics sort of if that makes any sense
ОтветитьThis is not merely a showcase for masterful guitar playing- this is a great song.
Ответитьholy shit
ОтветитьCliffs Of Dover is to Instrumental Prog Rock as Take Five is to Jazz. Just so catchy.
ОтветитьAnyone... with enough gumption... can play "Eruption" close enough to the original to get people to go "WOW!" This one though... it's in another league. Can ANYONE play this besides him?
ОтветитьEric Johnson is an amazing musician and this is an amazing piece
ОтветитьHe's the kind of guitarist who either makes you want to take up guitar or else bury your guitar in the backyard.
ОтветитьNever ever gets old……dude just rips.
Ответитьhe is blessed with abnormally long fingers but his hands look older than mine and I'm 55. this post was just for me.
ОтветитьDid i enter a sudden death shootout?
ОтветитьDid the crowd realize they were witnessing a moment that would go down in music history?
Ответитьthis is exactly how I would have played the best guitar tune! 😎
ОтветитьThis is probably the only song I find both cheesy and incredibly genius at the same time
ОтветитьOh my God, this is insane...best performance ever.
ОтветитьCan’t wait til this guy visits the Grand Canyon.
ОтветитьMy body cannot contain my soul whenever I hear this.
ОтветитьMost excellent
Ответитьnice! thank you!!
