Stephen King Confesses He Didn't Like The Shining Movie

The Shining is a bit of a silly book. The movie already made people forget it was based on a book.

Maybe the movie shows the ugly side of king he doesn't want to admit, whereas the book gives himself a good feeling about himself.

I've liked all the films I've seen Drew in. I watched one recently from 20 years ago for the first time, entitled 'Duplex' in the U.S and over here in England it's ' Our House'. The title was changed because we don't use that word over here, and I had to look it up to know what it meant. With regard to Stephen King, i've been reading his books since being a teenager, I'm now 45, and i still love his writing. I'm not a huge movie buff, but i do love a movie that stands out and is original, and movies based on King's books always do stand out. He's a one off!!

A question NEVER asked of King: "So, did you give back all the money?"

i confess, i don't like stephen king. on a very personal level.

I tried watching the new Firestarter (2022) and couldn't last more than 15 minutes. I ended up leaving the theater cause there is no better Charlie Mcgee than Drew

Must be a bit uncomfortable for some actors watching their own movies, and Drew knows it better than anyone. Going back to Stephen King, I'm not a fan of him, but I did read a book of his called "Night Shift", which I found quite interesting.

I love that Stephen says that he doesn’t like the movie but doesn’t blame people who do like the film.

Personally, I remain on Stephen King's side of the issue over the Stanley Kubrick film version of "The Shining" from 1980 and I will always be in solidarity with many novelists who just DON'T WANT their works being mistreated by Hollywood filmmakers because they often worry about the results of how they turn out in the end anyway. When I saw Kubrick's cinematic take on "The Shining," I WAS impressed with it. But after Stephen King told about how he had HATED that film because it wasn't like his original novel, I had realized that Mr. King was RIGHT about it and that I vowed NEVER to watch it again for as long as I live regardless of the 1980 film's unfortunate popularity by courtesy of Stanley Kubrick. Other than that, I LOVED Kubrick's OTHER classic films instead.

I really enjoyed the novel of The Shining but the movie is better. Best adaptation of all though is Stand By Me.

I agree with him. The Shining was so tedious that i fell asleep while i was watching it. Doctor Sleep, on the other hand, was great. I loved it.

I love all of his genius works has this beautiful story with his wife.

I understand his objections and complaints about the shining, but I have to say the movie is a masterpiece.

After I read the book I didn't like The Shining film. Also it continues the trend of nihilistic Hollywood films that tear the family apart.

I personally loved the book the shinning better than the movie the book just made more sense to me the movie just didn’t get the essence of the book a lot was left out like key points that king made about good and evil
